Are you ready for the Veterinary Quiz for today? Please don't see the answer , try answering in the comments first:) Question: What is the diagnosis of the left first maxillary molar (209) in this 6-year-old mixed breed dog? Answer Caries. Question: What is the first step in evaluation prior to treatment? Answer Intraoral Radiography. Although the lack of radiographic signs of pulp necrosis are not always definitive, pulp cavity changes and periapical lucencies alter the treatment plan. Question: What three factors discourage the formation of caries in the dog vs. humans? Answer Relatively few teeth in the dog have flat occlusal surfaces where pit and fissure caries may develop. Salivary pH is higher (more alkaline) in the dog compared to humans. The interdental spaces are generally wider in the majority of the dog dentition. Question: If the tooth is nonvital, what are the options? Answer Surgical extraction or endodontic therapy and restoration with or without placement of a crown. Have previous extraction wet labs let you down? Dr. Beckman's specific techniques minimize the stress and time spent on surgical extractions Comment the word "wetlab" and will send the link right away #brettbeckman #veterinary

Across the globe, veterinarians and other animal-oriented professionals recognize February as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. Often confused with one another, a spay is the reproductive sterilization of a female animal, while a neuter is the removal of a male animal’s reproductive organs. The public commonly refers to both surgeries as getting one’s animal “fixed.” At Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital, we do not perform routine spays and neuters; these are done by the family veterinarian. Sometimes, we get referrals to our board-certified surgeons for spay and neuter services when pet owners or family veterinarians determine that the animal would benefit from a laparoscopic procedure, which requires just a small opening in the abdominal wall to allow for a fibre-optic camera (laparoscope) to be inserted. This less-invasive procedure reduces the amount of pain, the number of complications, and overall recovery time for the animal. Learn more spay and neuter facts, including four top reasons to have this procedure performed, on our blog: https://lnkd.in/ehikViD3 . . . #momentsmatter #vetmedicine #vetspeciality #vetspecialists #spayneuterawarenessmonth
