In a time of omnipresent high-resolution 3D-models, AI and super-computing it is easy to forget that hydrology and hydraulic engineering existed long before our modern tools. Take a look at this mindboggling engineering marble from 13th century, 800 years ago. People were definitely not stupid, then! Artistic Geology: Pallay Punchu..!
FOLLOW Engineering👷🏻♀️Geology 🌋Science⚛️ Geotechnical Engineering Consultant of Critical Infrastructure
⚛️🚀 Artistic geology: Pallay Punchu, or Rainbow Mountain in Peru 🌋 Pallay Punchu is a fascinating sedimentary formation of impressive colors originated by sedimentary rocks containing iron oxides, clays, and other minerals, deposited in ancient marine and fluvial environments. 👨🏻🏫 Andean tectonic forces uplifted these layers over millions of years, after which erosion exposed the colorful strata, creating great geological formation from sedimentary mechanics and weathering in the Peruvian Andes. —————————————————————- ♻️ Repost to grow your Linkedin network 🚀 Follow Felipe Ochoa Cornejo 👨🏻🏫🇨🇱 for engineering & science 🎥 Video credit: By Please DM for credit #Engineering #Science #Innovation #Creativity #Construction #Art #

The Eupalinian Aqueduct, also known as the Tunnel of Eupalinos, is the oldest known tunnel in the world, dating back to around 530 BCE. It was constructed on the Greek island of Samos under the rule of the tyrant Polycrates. The tunnel's purpose was to ensure a steady water supply to the city of Samos, especially during times of siege, making it a critical infrastructure project for the ancient city. Key Details: Length: The tunnel is approximately 1,036 meters (3,399 feet) long and was dug through Mount Kastro. Construction: What makes the tunnel unique is that it was excavated from both ends simultaneously, a method that required precise calculations and was highly advanced for its time. Engineer: The tunnel was designed by the engineer Eupalinos of Megara, and it is considered one of the great engineering feats of antiquity. Technique: Workers dug through solid limestone using simple hand tools. The two teams from opposite sides met with impressive accuracy, a remarkable achievement without modern instruments. The tunnel served as an aqueduct, carrying water from a spring to the city, and is one of the earliest known examples of underground tunneling. It remains a symbol of ancient engineering prowess and ingenuity. #tunnel #tunnelengineering #tunneldesign #railway #highways #geotechnicalengineering #civilengineering #construction #india #vikshitbharat #makeinidna #nitingarkari #highwaydesign #geologist #geology #rockmass #ventilation #firefighting #scada

📣 pyramid-building mystery solved? Remarkable Egyptian logistics and civil engineering feat - 6,000 years ago; 🏗 ⛵ Scientists believe they may have solved the mystery of how 31 pyramids, including the world-famous Giza complex, were built in Egypt more than 4,000 years ago. A team from the University of North Carolina Wilmington has discovered that the pyramids are likely to have been built along a long-lost, ancient branch of the River Nile, now hidden under desert and farmland (view map below). ⛵ Archaeologists have long thought that ancient Egyptians must have used a nearby waterway to transport materials such as the stone blocks needed to build the pyramids on the river. But until recently, "nobody was certain of the location, the shape, the size or proximity of this mega waterway to the actual pyramids site", Prof Eman Ghoneim. ⛵ Researchers used radar satellite imagery, historical maps, geophysical surveys, and sediment coring to map the river branch - which they believe was buried by a major drought and sandstorms thousands of years ago. Fact: Gears were pivotal in the creation of the first mechanical clocks during the 14th century. These clocks revolutionized timekeeping by replacing unreliable water clocks with intricate systems of gears and weights, allowing towns and cathedrals to regulate daily life with greater precision. Fiction: It is often claimed that ancient Egyptians invented a fully functional gear system for automating the construction of pyramids. According to this myth, gears powered massive cranes that lifted stones into place. However, there is no historical or archaeological evidence to support the existence of such advanced machinery in ancient Egypt.
