In this article, we look at the ways in which electricity distribution companies currently acquire the rights they need to run cables under or over private land, the problems that can arise, and possible reforms that may pave the way for the significant increase in onshore wind power, needed to meet net zero targets. Understanding the current regime, and how it might change, will be particularly important for rural and agricultural landowners. https://lnkd.in/ekDUTSXS

New The Labour Party government overturns Tory onshore wind restrictions. In a major shift in energy policy, the new Labour government has announced the removal of significant barriers to onshore wind development in England. The changes were outlined by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who described the previous Tory government’s restrictions on onshore wind as “absurd”. The Tories had implemented a de facto ban on onshore wind since 2015, making it much more difficult for new projects to be approved. Reeves stated that the... Exciting news from the UK! The new The Labour Party government, led by Keir Starmer, is poised to lift the de-facto ban on onshore wind in England. In her first major speech as Chancellor, Rachel Reeves will announce this significant change as part of a broader overhaul of the planning system, aiming to facilitate grid upgrades and enhance energy infrastructure. It's been nearly a decade since any large-scale onshore wind farms were built in England, due to restrictive planning rules introduced by a previous Conservative-led administration. Labour Party (UK) has consistently pledged to reverse this moratorium, and with their recent electoral victory, they are now set to follow through on this promise. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative shift towards a greener future! Do these planning changes for Wind Farms give us a window into the way Labour will reform planning more broadly? You might have missed these changes, but they are interesting. To summarise, the old rules meant that Wind Farms could only be built with local support and via a Local Development Order. These rules no longer apply. The government just got rid of them, they didn't spend months and months doing a consultation or open a royal commission to investigate the positives and negatives over several years. They just got rid of them. They identified a hurdle and pushed it out of the way. This is huge news for onshore wind and has happened within the existing framework and planning rules. And if this is the attitude the government will be taking for all types of infrastructure and housing then we are going to be in for a very busy couple of years. #Development #PlanningReform #Reform #Labour

2024 brings to light the challenges of Biden's energy and fiscal policies, particularly the impact on energy prices. I am a big fan of Renewable Natural Gas, RNG because it offers a balance between environmental goals and economic realities. By investing in and prioritizing RNG, we can address the dual challenges of energy affordability and sustainability. #RenewableNaturalGas #EnergyPrices #SustainableSolutions

(Wind power and ocean rigs are mature tech at this point) The "energy crisis" in CA is due to the IOUs blocking rooftop solar. Wind, wave and tidal power are an add-on, and they can be done in combination for better value. SF Blue Tech Any tech that returns more energy than it took to make and install is independently viable, any tech that provides energy when solar isn't working is subsidized by solar PV. Ocean-going wind power is one of the better sources of energy because ocean winds are steadier than on land, the gear can be anywhere (out of sight), and 3/4 of the planet is available. Rigs can be floated to wherever needed. Most likely is that joint wind/wave/tidal "islands" will be used for CCUS across the planet.
Ocean Winds California is going all in on unproven offshore wind farm technology to help “solve” California’s energy crisis. It sounds good in theory, as wind farms are billed as “clean energy,” but the technology is lagging, doesn’t make economic sense, and has controversial deadly effects on whales and other fauna.
