🆘 Did you know that 87% of occupations in the U.S. are racially segregated? According to the National Employment Law Project, workers of color are often limited to the lowest-paid, least stable, and most dangerous jobs. 🏥 Direct care is one of the most occupationally segregated sectors, with BIPOC women overconcentrated in low-paying frontline healthcare jobs. 💡 H-CAP's Center for Equity initiative is working to raise the floor in healthcare so that every healthcare job can be a good job with opportunities to advance in a family-sustaining career. 💡 At H-CAP, we listen to direct care workers when they tell us what they need. Here's what we learned: Wraparound supports promote access, engagement, and success in employment and skills training programs, particularly among workers with multiple marginalized identities and BIPOC women. Access to affordable, reliable transportation and child/dependent care is consistently needed. Many ideas emerged about designing practical transportation assistance, including mileage reimbursement, parking passes, car allowances, affordable vehicle buying programs and grants, free or reduced-rate public transportation passes for buses and trains, and more. When researching what general areas of KNOWLEDGE we should have in order to understand and implement more equitable practices, four broad themes emerged. Of course, can't teach everyone advanced lessons in these in a nine-minute video, but can at least point people in the right direction: https://lnkd.in/d5GuxRQT
