Hosted at the London headquarters of the Financial Times, the event gathered senior decision-makers from Italian and UK businesses and included a high-level panel that explored the key opportunities for Italy’s export sector in today’s challenging economic and geopolitical environment. 🌏 Asia-Pacific Markets in Focus: Insights from the GlobalConnect Conference 🌟 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of moderating the engaging panel discussion “Chancenmärkte Asien-Pazifik (Opportunities in Asia-Pacific Markets)” at the GlobalConnect Conference in Stuttgart. Together with experts from the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) India, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea, we explored the tremendous potential this dynamic region holds for German businesses. The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce invited me to speak about "innovation as the driver of the economy in Africa". While that is true, I think the more important point is that we can learn a thing or two about African innovators, something that we (yes, Germans - looking at you here!) have not recently been very good at: leapfrogging from zero to sustainable solutions without going the dirty route first; creating new markets rather than constantly and minimally improving something we invented 150 years ago (yes, Otto engine - looking at you here!), launching digital solutions from scratch rather than tediously trying to migrate our "legacy systems" created in the 1990s or 2000s; and above all: creating products that solve real problems for many people (not deliver chocolate bars to your sofa in 10 minutes); be small and learn fast; work with what you have and then have the courage, energy and resilience to fight against adversity every day and still prevail. That's the type of stuff that inspires me about the African founders I meet; and I think we all need a little inspiration right now. 🌎 Opportunities Ahead for Argentina and Latin America 🌎 Today, I had the privilege of attending a special lunch event in Buenos Aires, organized by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. As an alumnus of this institution, I was thrilled to connect with fellow alumni and engage in an insightful discussion led by none other than Argentina’s current Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo. The conversation centered around the future of Argentina and the Latin American region—a future filled with both challenges and exciting opportunities. At a time when the global economy is in flux and digital transformation continues to reshape industries, Latin America has the potential to position itself as a hub for innovation, investment, and growth. As someone deeply passionate about scaling tech companies and driving market entry and expansion strategies, I see tremendous opportunity for businesses in Argentina and across the region to thrive. With the right strategies, tech startups and established companies alike can: • Leverage the region’s untapped markets and unique talent pools. • Build scalable and repeatable growth engines to compete globally. • Attract international investment through innovative and sustainable business models.
