Be kind to sales people making cold calls... UNLESS... They start the call with: "Hi, how are you?! or "Hi, is this you?!" Then swear at them, or whatever you feel is appropriate. Cold callers, always introduce yourself first. Then go get on with it

I couldn't agree more, kindness is key - sales teams are simply trying to do their job. BUT... It's also the responsibility of the business to care enough about their customers and their staff to follow ethical direct marketing practices. Businesses need to adhere to data privacy laws - this way your sales team won't constantly be at risk of calling rude, angry prospects or customers. If you're in a region that doesn't require you to adhere to data privacy laws, consider complying anyway. It's the right thing to do. It shows respect. Just saying... 🤷 There is nothing that irritates people faster than receiving multiple unsolicited cold calls every day because dodgy businesses purchase databases instead of putting in the hard work to actually capture people's consent to advertise to them. In South Africa, a recent surge in illegal, unsolicited cold calling (in contravention of POPIA) has resulted in a situation where no one here wants to answer the phone anymore unless the number is saved in their phone book. We have a national opt-out list (which I am on) and still unethical businesses persist in phoning. Can you blame us for being irritated when we're called against our wishes? We're getting (I'm not kidding) hundreds of spam calls every month. P.S. If you are following direct marketing best practice and complying with data privacy laws, and you find an asshole on the end of the line anyway, I'm sorry - you definitely deserved better! Unfortunately a bunch of unethical businesses have made your job unnecessarily hard for the ethical folks.

If you really expect someone to be kind to be kind to spammers, you need to be sent for a drug test immediately. Nowadays there is no damn reason to use telemarketing..
