Facing skyrocketing costs to buy and rent in Southwest Florida, Sean and Erin's dream of homeownership seemed unreachable. They moved in with family and waited out the market, but it wasn't until partnering with Habitat that hope became a reality. The couple met regularly with a housing counselor, completed 300 hours of sweat equity, attended more than 20 hours of homeownership education classes, and paid $2,000 toward closing costs. Sean and Erin celebrated their home dedication in May and officially closed on their home on July 23, just after welcoming their newborn. Join us in congratulating Sean and Erin's growing family in their new Habitat home! 💚

When you're looking for a neighborhood to live in, there are three key "green flags" you should look out for: ✅ Well-Maintained Properties: A neighborhood where homes and yards are well-kept typically reflects a community that takes pride in its surroundings. This suggests that residents care about the area and are likely to invest in its upkeep, which can contribute to a safer and more pleasant environment overall. ✅ Access to Amenities: A thriving neighborhood usually has convenient access to essential amenities like grocery stores, parks, schools, and healthcare facilities. The presence of these amenities indicates that the area is well-developed and can provide a comfortable living experience with everything you need close by. ✅ Active Community Involvement: Look for signs of a vibrant community, such as neighborhood events, active local organizations, or community-driven projects. These are indicators of a strong community spirit, which can lead to a more secure and welcoming environment. Active communities are often better at addressing issues that arise and maintaining the quality of the neighborhood. These factors are strong indicators of a healthy and thriving neighborhood where you can feel confident about putting down roots. 🏡 Celebrating National Homeownership Month! 🏡 June is National Homeownership Month, a time when we come together to recognize the significance of owning a home and its impact on families, communities, and the American Dream. Let’s explore why homeownership matters: 1. Building Roots and Equity: Owning a home allows us to establish roots in our communities. It’s where we create memories, celebrate milestones, and find stability. Moreover, homeownership builds equity over time, providing a valuable asset for future generations. 2. Generational Wealth: For many families, homeownership is the primary source of generational wealth. By owning property, we pass down financial stability, creating opportunities for our children and grandchildren. 3. Security and Dignity: Having a place to call home brings security and dignity. It’s more than just a physical structure; it’s a sanctuary where we find comfort, safety, and a sense of belonging. 4. Removing Barriers: As we celebrate National Homeownership Month, let’s also acknowledge the barriers that exist. We must address racial inequities and systemic issues that hinder first-time homebuyers, low- and moderate-income households, and communities of color from achieving their homeownership dreams. 5. Affordability and Access: Making housing more affordable is crucial. Initiatives like reducing mortgage insurance premiums and expanding housing supply are steps in the right direction. Let’s ensure that everyone has a fair chance at homeownership. 6. Housing Counseling: Education is key. Housing counseling empowers prospective homebuyers with knowledge, resources, and confidence. Let’s make home the goal by seeking pre-purchase housing counseling services through HUD-approved agencies. Let’s continue working together to make homeownership accessible, equitable, and sustainable for all. Share your homeownership stories and join the conversation! 🏠✨ #NationalHomeownershipMonth #HomeownershipMatters #AmericanDream #EqualHousingLender @FirstBank
