Jay Kodeswaran has accepted our return offer. What a relief! Over his internship, Jay has become a residential expert in many domains. He is an essential part of our team. How does he become so important as a new grad? It's simple: Jay has the knowledge and the experiences. The requirement is the same for everyone, whether you are an undergrad, a graduate student, a PhD, or a senior employee at big tech. To be effective in a job, you need knowledge and experience. There is a path to get that knowledge and experience -- more internships. Jay walks through his example and demonstrates that it's possible to do many internships over four years in college. The extra benefit of doing many internships is to learn what you like and dislike early on, which is probably one of the most important factors of long-term career success.
How to Land Dream Offers in Tech as A New Grad? | with Jay

Doing my first "career day" presentation to my 10-year-old's class this Friday. I have some ideas that I'm exciting to share, but let's do a bit of crowdsourcing. How would you explain software engineering to 10-year-olds? What do think is important to mention about this career? Will it even be around in ~10 years when some of these kids will be thinking about how to make a living? I mean, they're already thinking about it, but let's face it, not many of them will become professional soccer players or ballerinas. Should I tell them to skip the software engineering phase and start a farm/open a pop-up bakery right away?

👋 hello, hello from week 7 at The Ohio State University Center for Software Innovation! One thing that has truly impressed me is the dedication of our students to gain practical, hands-on experience to better prepare for the workforce. For instance, I recently spoke with an OSU graduate who participated in HackOHI/O (with Cal King) during his undergraduate years. When asked why, he simply said he wanted to learn the platforms that startups were using through a hands-on-keyboard experience. Gone are the days when students joined clubs solely to pad their resumes. (see: President of Bucket & Dipper Russ Johnston begging me to do something–ANYTHING—with my role as Secretary 🤓). Today's students are eager to acquire real-world skills that translate directly into their future careers. Whether through involvement in an honorary like Bucket and Dipper or practical experiences like HackOHI/O, they are driven to make the most of their time in school. Students now expect more from their education, and it's our responsibility to deliver. This commitment is what drew me to this role at OSU and has fueled my work over the past seven weeks with Shereen Agrawal. We're equipping students and the broader tech community in Columbus with the tools, skills, knowledge, and experience to accelerate their journey from education to innovation. To that end: DM me internship or full-time roles available for hard-working, best-in-class innovators. We're curating these opps for students now! Alright, back to work. ✌ PS: The student I mentioned earlier? He's at a FAANG. (Or is it The Magnificent 7 now... 🤔 )

What do you do when a colleague's achievement fills you with pride? Naturally, you share it on LinkedIn for the world to see 🙌 . Well, our super cool colleague, Leonardo Colman Lopes was recently invited by @dasiusp to speak at the prestigious "Internship Week" at the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities of the University of São Paulo (EACH USP). His presentation, titled "Finding Yourself in the Tech Market," served as the grand opening for this event. In his talk, Leo delved into critical topics for burgeoning tech professionals, guiding them on how to craft compelling CVs and what projects they should include in their portfolios. He emphasized the immense value of Personal Projects, Open Source contributions, and active participation in Tech Communities. According to Leo, these experiences are not just learning opportunities; they're gateways to thriving careers in the tech world. A highlight of his presentation was the inspiring story of how he discovered Kotzilla through the #kotlin Community Slack, a testament to the power of community engagement. Having served as the IT Director for two years and as a student representative for five years at EACH USP, Leo's insights come from a place of rich experience and deep understanding of the field. Leo says "Being recognized as an expert by my country's top university is both an honor and a great responsibility, especially when guiding young minds at the start of their careers. The joy of sharing knowledge and inspiring new ideas in students is truly unmatched" His talk was an invaluable contribution to the event, offering practical advice and real-world examples to students eager to carve their paths in the tech industry. We're super happy to have such a knowledgeable and inspiring individual as part of our team. Go, Leo, you make us proud! 👏 #TechTalk #CareerDevelopment #UniversityOfSaoPaulo #InternshipWeek #TechCommunity #Inspiration
