It's the #firstdayofschool here in Philadelphia! Wishing all students, families, teachers and administrators a great year! Safe, stable homes are fundamental to successful educational outcomes. According to Children's HealthWatch, kids who experience housing insecurity are less likely to reach their full potential. Let's focus on meeting student needs in the classroom and at home by increasing access to affordable homeownership and critical home repairs -- allowing families to make greater investments in their children's education. On Monday, we published 'Empty Desks: The Enrollment Crisis in Boston Public Schools.' https://lnkd.in/ezxpbPe3 This is the first of a three part series that will look at the related issues of school enrollment declines, housing cost increases, residential segregation, and population declines of young families with children. This first part focuses on enrollment in Boston's schools, and particularly, enrollment in Boston's public schools. In my favorite of the graphs from it, we track graduating cohorts from kindergarten through 12th grade. One big finding from this is that the K-2 enrollment for the graduating class of 2035 is 15 percent below the graduating class of 2024. This speaks to the increasing pressures declining enrollment is putting on the city, its families and schools. #bps #bostonpublicschools #enrollment #boston #families

A new report from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools shows just how integral charter schools are to the public school sector. The report also reveals that charter schools are the only part of public education that is neither stagnant nor shrinking — and, in some cases, even exceeding population growth trends. Over the last four school years (2019-20 to 2022-23), charter schools have gained more than 300,000 students, or a 9% increase. Meanwhile, district public schools have experienced a 3.5% loss. These numbers show how much families value school choice, particularly finding the education option that best fits their child’s unique needs. Civic Builders is proud to support the creation of exceptional charter schools, providing more additional seats for students who need them every year: https://lnkd.in/eSW9qfpJ

Recess plays a critical role in the growth and development of children and can lead to improved academic performance! ⭐ In schools across the U.S., administrators and teachers are juggling priorities to help ensure the best for students and their families. While play can often take a backseat to academics and student well-being, the importance of recess shouldn’t be overlooked. Recess and play provide many benefits. ARP (American Rescue Plan) ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) U.S. government funding can be utilized to enhance student wellness and learning environments, including the development or improvement of playgrounds. From the archives... “The truth is, parents already have the freedom to choose.” ~Tiffany Boyd (Free YOUR Children) Government school choice programs aren’t magically going to make something available that isn’t currently available, but they will further inject the schooling industry with more government bureaucracy, which has shown up to this point to be ineffectual at best, detrimental at worst. Although they may not initially be overtly intended to do so, through subtle means, they will eventually entangle private schools and home education, to the detriment of all. #HomeEducation #homeschool #homeschooling #education #GetOutNow #PublicSchoolExit #ChristianEducation #EdcuationIsDiscipleship #ChristianHomeschoolRevolution https://lnkd.in/g3NE-MKJ

Help us Revitalize Colorado Family Communities! We need to acknowledge that when declines in enrollment are due to population shifts, the root causes are outside of a school district's control. Surpassing Distinction has developed a proof of concept that applies an evidence-based, community-impact model that lifts community voice, incentivizes district participation, and funnels resources into affected communities to mitigate the negative impacts of the shifts, which can result in school closures and rapid community decline. At its essence, it is an economic stimulus process where population shifts and declining enrollment are factors in community identification. https://lnkd.in/gpScZpm6
