When we started Extend, we noticed that enterprise customers often have LOTS of use cases processing unstructured data. We built Extend in a flexible way to support them all, and we're seeing it pay off. Here's a usage graph of a customer where each color represents a different use case. They started with 1 like everyone else, and they've since used Extend to deploy 5 new use cases (and growing)! These use cases span everything from internal ops flows, external user-facing products, data mining jobs, and more. We've now replicated this motion at multiple enterprise customers. To ship multiple use cases effectively, customers need to be able to get production-ready as fast as possible (otherwise, you end up deprioritizing a few) and easily manage them so teams aren't stuck in maintenance mode and firefighting issues. We've solved some hard product problems to enable this, but there's still a lot left to be done. We're growing quickly, and hiring talented senior engineers in NYC. Have you ever had to let team members go when they did nothing wrong, were performing well, and are great people? As an entrepreneur, owning up to this is extremely hard. I pity those who can do it without feeling emotions. The cause: Unfortunately, due to delayed solar projects in our onboarding pipeline and less “Permission to Operate” activity than anticipated in Q3-Q4, Ivy Energy has had to slightly reduce staff. This is one of the hardest things to plan and execute. However, as a VC-backed company, we had to maximize resources to continue moving toward our goal of profitability while onboarding our immense pipeline—over 100MW of solar focused on mid-to-low-income communities that will leverage our software. ⚡ I’d rather publicly post about this than try to ignore it. Ignoring it, I believe, would be a strong sign of a negative trajectory, which is NOT the case. We are still better positioned than ever to enable millions of energy consumers and thousands of communities to benefit from local clean energy. The difference now is that we have a more data-driven way to forecast our budget, thanks to our growing number of live projects.
