Oh, #CampNaNoWriMo, how I loved and loathed thee... Not too long after finishing my first #developmentaledit project, I thought to myself, "Well, if this person could do it, surely I could do it, too." I'm not saying it was easy, but I wrapped up that first draft on the last day....and sent it to four alpha readers the next day. Yeah, maybe don't do this, my fellow author friends. Rest your manuscript, sure. Make little notes for ideas on improvements, sure. Read similar titles to compare, definitely. Sending out your first draft to alpha readers while it's resting? It will test your confidence in every word you put on that page, and whether it's reasonable to dump the whole manuscript in the trash, no matter what the alpha readers say. Of course, how you go forward after you finish your first draft is up to you. Feel proud that you finished it. Only 3% of writers who start actually finish that draft. #tuesdaytips #authoreditorproblems #fictionwriting

Discovery writers unite! Dismantle that discovery draft you created and figure out what should stay and what should go. You still need the same elements in your story, you just may add them later than other writers do. This is the guide you need to get you there. #writingcraft #writingadvice #indieauthors https://vist.ly/3bxst

Nonfiction Writing Coach | I help Christian writers be deliberate and redemptive in their writing, living, and thinking. Their books will teem with life, depth, and personality. —English and Dutch.
Some good advice here. 🙂 Let the curiosity gap guide you to reading the post below. 😁
I know something you don't know. If you're a writer, you share that advantage over your readers, too. —You did the research first —You did the thinking first —You did it all first This puts the reader in a fun position. Present them with a mystery and they'll just *have* to read on to resolve this tension. It's called the "curiosity gap." And it works almost every time—as long as you know how to wield it.

The best source of inspiration for aspiring and veteran writers alike is, you guessed it, reading! Even reading topics not directly related to your field can spark imagination and help you craft sentences differently than you might have on your own. Before sitting down with your literal or metaphorical pen, draw ideas from those a step or two ahead. Find an example of what you're striving to achieve, and then work to close the gap between here and there. Whether your magnum opus is a great literary novel or diligent research making you an authority in your field, build from the blocks you most admire, and open up your thinking to create new patterns of ideas. One day, maybe a new writer will use your work as their aspirational piece.
