While I agree with you on persistence and always keeping your eye on the prize - 1% return rate is unacceptable. People work because they need to make a living, going months on end without income is not sustainable after a certain point. In my personal perspective, the current selection process for job interviews is deeply flawed. It's disheartening to see numerous qualified individuals applying for countless job opportunities, only to be overlooked due to rigid automated systems. Many exceptional candidates, including myself, are left in the shadows as companies rely on resume scanning algorithms rather than engaging with potential talents. This approach hinders the discovery of individuals with unwavering loyalty, integrity, and exceptional business acumen. Ultimately, both employers and top-notch candidates are missing out on valuable connections and opportunities. It's time for a shift towards a more inclusive and human-centric hiring process that values true potential over automated filters.

Early in your career, experiement and iterate "what you do" as much as possible to find out what you really want. The more things you try out, the more clarity you have on your next try. Mitchell Earl with this advice:

I wrote this article in 2015 and thought it was a good time to revisit it. There are things you can do for your job search and career development - even on days when you don't feel like doing much of anything. Future you will thank you for it!

I got asked today what the most challenging part of my job is when I help with service members who are transitioning to civilian employment 1️⃣False set of expectations ⇢I served 20+ years, and everyone will be begging me to work for them ⇢Networking isn't for me because I've already gotten 2-3 verbal job opportunities, and I don't even retire for another year ‼️If you don't have an actual contract, you don't have a job 2️⃣ Knowing what they want to do when they leave 3️⃣ Understanding how to showcase their current relevant skill set and job experience Just a few that came to mind. Transitioning isn't easy; it's all about being prepared and doing hard work ⇢Networking early 2+ years out ⇢Career Exploration: spend time learning what you qualify for and if those jobs are even of interest to you ⇢Get a mentor or a few mentors ⇢Be humble and learn from others who have already done it Does any other career specialist want to add to this?

Busting the myth: 'You need years of experience to stand out in a crowded job market.' It's an old-school mentality and it's time to retire it. Because in today's market, there are tools that can help you differentiate from the crowd: - A strong online presence - Robust network - Targeted projects - Relevant skills But most importantly: A mindset shift Stop thinking about what you don't have and start thinking about what you can bring to the table. Stop focusing on your lack of experience and start emphasizing your: - Adaptability - Creativity - Problem-solving ability - Willingness to learn These are the skills that make you a valuable candidate, not just years on a job. So, when you're applying for your next job, think about how you can differentiate yourself. Think about how you can bring value to the company, and how you can solve their problems. Some are scared to make a move in their career. But the biggest risk we take is leaving it to chance. When you fail to plan your career, you accept: - Holding down single job - Relying on a 3% raise to live - Subjecting yourself to random layoffs - Rarely increasing your skillset - Working a 9 to 5 until 65 Any promotion you receive will be from random chance. And work will never be anything more than a paycheck. That's no way to drift through life. Try this instead: - Create a career development plan - Put effort into growing your skills daily - Align your mission with your manager - Advocate for your work every week - Secure a promotion in 6-12 months You don't have to spend every moment on your career.
