Sofar Ocean will see Berge adopt Sofar’s Wayfinder platform across its fleet of owned vessels, including new vessels equipped with wind propulsion #technology on path to decarbonization. Berge Bulk said it has entered the second phase of its ambitious plans, applying new technology. In the past year, Berge Bulk has equipped two ships – Newcastlemax vessel Berge Olympus and Valemax carrier Berge Neblina – with wind propulsion technology. The adoption of Wayfinder is the latest in a series of #decarbonisation initiatives aimed at achieving zero scope 1 emissions fleetwide by 2050. Wayfinder provides dynamic route and rpm guidance that accounts for variations in weather, market and vessel performance using Sofar’s weather forecasts, powered by its proprietary global ocean sensor network. These data-driven weather models greatly reduce forecast uncertainty and increase vessel performance model accuracy.

Excited to share some insights from the SeaPerEffekt research project, promoted by the Projektträger Jülich (PtJ) and the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, which is investigating the differences in power requirements between a clean and a fouling hull. Our study includes multiphase resistance calculations to understand the dynamics at play. We analyse wave patterns and flow characteristics to gain deeper insights into propulsion efficiency. Our research examines energy losses around and behind the clean hull, shedding light on the critical factors that affect performance. How is PGS contributing to the understanding of the world's seabeds? ⛵ It begins with the Nippon Foundation and GEBCO Seabed 2030 project. Their goal, launched in 2017, aims to build a global community of ocean mappers, hydrographers, scientists, and industry stakeholders who will come together to publish all existing bathymetric data and 'map the gaps' of our world's oceans.🔎 The vision - by 2030, the world’s oceans will be fully mapped and the data freely available. PGS is uniquely placed to contribute to this project. Not only does PGS conduct long transits between projects but also undertakes detailed surveying and data collection over time in many different regions when acquiring seismic data. Since 2020 PGS has routinely collected bathymetry data using the vessel’s echo sounders and when entitled to do so, shared this data with the Seabed 2030 project. 🌎 “For us, it makes perfect sense to support Seabed 2030." Says Rob Adams, EVP of Operations and COO. Time for a mid-year reality check! SynMax's early identification of #LNG market-moving trends for 2024 has been spot on so far (see a sample below). We looked into the scenario of dark Russian LNG back in January. SynMax will be best-positioned to unveil dark LNG from #Russia Arctic-2 given our collection and maritime intelligence capabilities.
