This Water Safety Month, the Haines City Fire Department encourages everyone to adopt the National Drowning Prevention Alliance's layers of protection. These critical measures are designed to enhance safety and prevent drowning around water: 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀: Ensure your pool is surrounded by fencing with self-closing and self-latching gates. Alarms on gates, doors, and windows can alert you if someone accesses the pool area unexpectedly. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: Maintain active, focused adult supervision at all times when children are in or near water. 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Promote swimming skills and water safety education among all family members and ensure everyone knows how to swim well. 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀: Equip all inexperienced swimmers and guests with life jackets when swimming in pools or natural bodies of water. 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Familiarize yourself with basic water rescue techniques and ensure that life-saving devices such as life rings and a first aid kit are accessible near your swimming area. Implementing these layers of protection can make a significant difference in maintaining a safe water environment. Let’s take the steps needed to ensure our community enjoys a safe and fun Water Safety Month! #Wateractivities, from swimming to boating, offer great enjoyment but also come with risks. According to the CDC, there are about 4,000 unintentional drownings in the United States each year, including boating-related incidents, averaging 11 deaths per day. Additionally, for every child who dies from #drowning, another eight receive emergency department care for non-fatal drowning incidents. To ensure a memorable and safe experience: 👉🏽 It's crucial to follow safety guidelines 👉🏽 Wear life jackets 👉🏽 Supervise children 👉🏽 Be mindful of water conditions. 😎 Train your workforce about Summer Safety: https://lnkd.in/eCr4vmPp ⬇️ Download a FREE Microlearning Topical Overview on us ✅: https://lnkd.in/gjY7EYTK #safetytraining #safetyawareness #trainingsolutions

WORLD DROWNING PREVENTION DAY Today 25th of July marks the World Drowning Prevention Day. In commemoration of this, I’d like to use this medium to remember our fallen comrades; Mustapha Tukur Kabiru Hamza Aisha Ogwu Celestina, who passed away as a result of an unfortunate boat capsize that occurred on the 24th June, 2023. Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death worldwide, affecting individuals of all ages. It occurs when a person is unable to breathe due to submersion in water or another liquid, leading to a lack of oxygen and potentially fatal outcomes. PREVENTION STRATEGIES 1. SUPERVISION : Always keep a close watch on individuals, especially children, near water. Designate a responsible person to monitor swimming areas. 2. SWIMMING LESSONS : Enroll children and adults in swimming lessons to build water safety skills and confidence. 3. SAFETY EQUIPMENT : Use life jackets and other flotation devices where appropriate, especially for non-swimmers and young children. 4. BARRIERS AND FENCING : Install barriers around private pools and bodies of water to prevent unsupervised access. 5. CPR TRAINING : Learn and maintain current knowledge of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) techniques to act quickly in emergencies. 6. AVOID ALCOHOL : Refrain from consuming alcohol while swimming or supervising others in water, as it impairs judgment and coordination. By implementing these measures, the risk of drowning can be significantly reduced, ensuring safer experiences around water. #WorldDrowningPreventionDay #July25 #SafeHealthPractices #NIMSA #SCOPI #ncdc #nema #WHO #UNICEF #SDG3
