💥💥Viewer discretion advised 💥💥 This shocking and unfortunate incident should be circulated widely so employers, employees, subcontractors, and all stakeholders that work with and around forklifts and other heavy equipment can learn from it. 👉The load obviously exceeded the equipment safe lifting capacity!!! 👉An employee is seen riding the forklift, probablyin order to increase the counter weight and balance/ stabilize the equipment !!! 👉The equipment lost balance and tipped foward, and another employee (pedestrian) rushed to catch it! 👉The equipment instantaneously rolled back, the employee fell to the ground under the counterweight and was runover !!! 👉That was tragic and very disturbing!! 👉Proper training (of forklift operator and other employees in the work area), supervision, proper loading (not exceeding Safe Loading Limit) or prvison by employer or use by operator of a heavier equipment (superior forklift that could safely handle the load ) should have prevented this incident from happening. ************************* An employer has the responsibility to ensure that he provides a safe work environment free of hazards or where hazards have been mitigated to a reasonably acceptable level. He has the responsibility to ensure that the work environment is free from hazards that could cause death or serious physical harm to employees. ********************* Evidently, this tragic incident happened because this workplace lacked safety procedures or faied to take safety seriously. I'm infuriated at the company and deeply sorry for the victim. 💔💔😢😢😢 ******************** What's your take on this?

The fundamental needs in an Organizations are Training, awareness and planting the fear of what could go wrong. In this case, it is clearly to be seen that failure to comply on the basic protocols which is speed limit. Although a Forklift speed can reach 15 to 20mph but it is advised to operate under limited speed which is not more than 5mph. A comprehensive structured safety system is what is needed in an organization. Safety is not an Option, it’s a must. No Warning Stickers on the Job Site • Violation: There were no warning signs to let people know where forklifts were operating or where hazards might be. • consequences : Without clear warnings, workers might accidentally walk into dangerous areas, increasing the chance of being hit by the forklift or other accidents. 2. Forklift Driven Backwards With Alarm Horn Activated • Violation: The forklift was driven backward because the driver couldn’t see forward due to the load. The horn was used to warn people, but the driver still couldn’t see clearly. • consequences: Driving without a clear view is dangerous, even with the horn. The driver might hit something or someone without realizing it. 3. No Occupational Safety System or Safety Monitor • Violation: There was no proper safety system in place, and no one was there to make sure safety rules were being followed. • consequences: Without supervision, unsafe practices can happen, like speeding or overloading, because there’s no one to stop them. 4. Overloading Bales Blocking the Driver’s View • Violation: The forklift was carrying too many bales, blocking the driver’s ability to see what was ahead. • consequences: If the driver can’t see where they’re going, they might crash into obstacles, other workers, or equipment. 5. Not Following Speed Limits and Safe Driving Rules • Violation: The forklift was likely being driven too fast or without caution, breaking the rules of safe driving. • consequences: Driving too fast reduces the driver’s ability to stop in time to avoid an accident or safely maneuver the forklift. 6. Poor Housekeeping • Violation: The worksite wasn’t kept clean and organized, with waste or clutter around the area. • consequences: Clutter can block paths, cause trips, or create obstacles that make it harder for the forklift to move safely, leading to accidents. Overall Consequences These combined violations create a hazardous work environment. I am excited to share with you our recent publication titled "Development of an Educational Program for Occupational Health and Safety in Saudi Arabia." This paper represents a significant milestone and addresses a critical need in our country's workforce. Occupational health and safety (OHS) is a topic of utmost importance, ensuring the well-being of workers and fostering a safe working environment. As Saudi Arabia experiences rapid industrialization and economic growth, it becomes imperative to tackle the challenges and concerns surrounding workplace safety. This led us to develop an educational program specifically tailored to the Saudi Arabian context, aiming to equip workers, employers, and stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
