#Sustainability continues to be a major focus for our company and business aviation as a global industry. For the past two decades, we have been innovating for a more sustainable future. It is built into our core business and is a key pillar in our long-term strategy. As we work to ensure that Gulfstream Aerospace continues to deliver against its stated industry goals, I’m pleased to share that we have added a new role: Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer. In this role, Smitha Hariharan will help to drive Gulfstream’s sustainable transformation by aligning our business strategies with ongoing sustainability principles. Gulfstream understands that advancing in this arena goes well beyond perfecting and sourcing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), requiring comprehensive and ongoing analysis of the full scope of business practices – including design, manufacturing, supply chain, facilities and much more. Gulfstream has long been an innovator in this space, with our next-generation fleet offering as much as 33% fuel-efficiency gains over predecessor models. We’ve reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 18% since 2014 while expanding facilities by 30%. And in November 2023, we completed the world’s first trans-Atlantic flight on 100% SAF in both engines. But there is more work to be done. Adding this critical role is an important next step in Gulfstream’s story of continuous improvement – one that will help us continue to maintain our leadership as sustainability innovators. One of the major topics in the aviation industry is sustainability, as can be clearly seen at the ILA this week. This is mainly driven by the five key challenges as illustrated in the graphic below. Players in the aviation industry must particularly focus on addressing the following by their activities: · ESG Compliance & Reporting · Decarbonization · Circular Economy We (Dr. Sebastian Jursch and Michael Santo) have analyzed the aviation-specific challenges and opportunities to ensure ESG compliance, achieve decarbonization, and enhance profitability through circular economy. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Aviation #Innovation #ILA #Decarbonization #Aerospace #ESGCompliance H&Z Management Consulting, SUSTAINX, The Transformation Alliance Agnes Erben, Jan Marotz, Steffen Wenzel, Sven Steinert

Innovation is Gulfstream’s legacy, and sustainability innovation for future generations is arguably the most important mission our industry has faced to date. That’s why I’m incredibly proud to share that Gulfstream, in collaboration with G600 engine partner Pratt & Whitney, has successfully completed the world’s first trans-Atlantic flight utilizing 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in both engines. The G600 flew from Gulfstream’s Savannah, Georgia, headquarters to its Farnborough, England, Service Center on Sunday, Nov. 19. Flight data and critical insights gleaned from this historic mission will play an important role in our industry’s collective efforts to validate safety and viability of SAF, which stands to reduce net CO2 by nearly 80% on a lifecycle basis as an alternative for fossil-based jet fuel. Sustainability firsts are not new for Gulfstream. We’ve been committed to researching and testing alternative fuels and technologies for more than a decade: · In 2011, a G450 became the first business jet to complete a trans-Atlantic mission using a blend of SAF · Since 2016, Gulfstream has used SAF in its demonstration, customer support and flight test operations. Today, over 2M nautical miles have been flown on the blend · In 2021, Gulfstream became the first OEM to receive the National Aeronautic Association’s Sustainable Wings certificate, awarded for city-pair speed records set using SAF · Just last year, a domestic test flight utilizing 100% SAF on board a G650 was successfully completed in partnership with Rolls-Royce I would like to extend a special thanks to the many Gulfstream employees whose passion and thought leadership drive progress to achieving decarbonization goals set forth by the National Business Aviation Association, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, IBAC, as well our parent company, General Dynamics, who has called for a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions across all business units by 2034 relative to 2019 levels. Additional thanks to World Energy, LLC, World Fuel Services, Honeywell Aerospace, Safran, Eaton and many more for their role in this world-class achievement. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gSqW8ajw 🔗 For more on Gulfstream’s sustainability mission, click here: https://lnkd.in/gutqVVX2

Aviation is under ever increasing scrutiny on its ESG impact. Despite often seen images of plane ‘boneyards’ in the desert, the end of an aircraft’s service life does not equate to the end of its usefulness. In this paper we put the spotlight on this often forgotten yet high-growth area.

Great to see total honesty about decarbonisation from Boeing. Chief Sustainability Officer Brian Moran doesn't try to greenwash in its Sustainability & Social Impact Report: He says progress is "steady". How can it realistically be called anything else at the moment in the aviation industry? There is clearly an acceleration of effort among airlines, but the reality is that SAF is still just a tiny proportion of all of the fuel that is used. Planes will keep flying, fuel will continue to be burnt. Progress is slow. But Boeing and other major airlines are pushing hard to make their industry sustainable. David L. Calhoun, Heather Sheffer and all at Boeing deserve praise for having the vision and seasoning it with realism. #Boeing #SAF #sustainableaviation #decarbonisation

📢 When Greenwashing Gets Deadly 💀 Boeing has been making headlines lately, but the corporate sustainability world has missed their deadly greenwashing. 😬 In 2011, Boeing announced plans for a new fuel-efficient plane to replace its aging, fossil fuel-guzzling 737 fleet. 🛩️ Instead of designing a sustainable plane from scratch (which would've taken time and money 💰), Boeing decided to follow Airbus' model and slap a new fuel-efficient engine on their old planes - chasing that short-term high. 🤑 Enter: the 737 Max. 💥 The new engines compromised the plane's aerodynamics, but Boeing doubled down on sustainability claims, desperately trying to compete with Airbus' fuel-efficient engine. 🌳🤥 The 737 Max disasters are a direct result of prioritizing speed over sustainability, resulting in a flawed product that claimed nearly 350 lives and endangered hundreds more. 💔 Capitalism is supposed to drive improvements through competition, but the 737 Max shows how competition can lead to worse long-term results. 🔥 The pressure to be the fastest and cheapest sustainable option led to disaster. 💣 Boeing had a decade to advance plane design for a better world, but instead, they've murdered innocent people, destroyed their reputation, and become a poster child for corporate greed. 🤯 All because they used sustainability as a mere profit tool. 💸 The company, consumers, and the climate paid the price for Boeing's greenwashing. 🌎☠️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gFniyQ-R
