AI can free up valuable time for us as healthcare professionals, allowing us to focus on high-level work that requires #clinicalexpertise, human connection, and compassion. Envision a future where AI acts as a "second set of eyes," supporting doctors and nurses in their decision-making processes, while still maintaining human oversight and control, says Peter Lee of Microsoft. The potential benefits of #AIinhealthcare are vast and truly transformative, but it's essential to approach this with caution and a deep understanding of its limitations. As populations get older the cost of healthcare rises, in the last World Economic Forum, global experts discussed how can healthcare systems around the world cope. Part of the answer might be value based approach & AI in healthcare. A newly evolving concept where patient outcomes are monitored & healthcare services are funded based on the quality of care rather than the quantity of procedures. That is the promise of the value based healthcare services which laser focus on; Higher patient satisfaction, better outcomes and less cost of care. The podcast explains the need to explore/implement the idea of Shifting from a volume based to a value based healthcare model and its positive impacts. About AI: AI can help, and it already has. Generative AI tools and chatbots, for example, are cutting the time doctors and nurses spend on paperwork. Every day, we learn more about the potential of AI to improve healthcare. One recent study by the UK’s Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Cancer Research showed that AI was “almost twice as accurate as a biopsy at judging the aggressiveness of some cancers.” This translates into different treatments and, ultimately, more lives saved. On the other hand, the concerns of using artificial intelligence are legitimate and must be addressed. AI algorithms, for example, can exacerbate biases in healthcare. This can happen when the data used to train algorithms reflect and amplify the inequalities existing in healthcare and society today. Another major responsibility is protecting patient data, which is sacrosanct to the doctor-patient relationship. Crafting the right mix between benefits of AI in healthcare while mitigating risks, it will take cross-sector collaboration and coalition building every step of the way – because we have a collective industry-wide responsibility to get this right. #HealthCare #Value_Based #HealthTech #AI #Vision2030

This insightful article highlights the transformative role of AI in transitions of care and preventing readmissions. Working in a health system that leverages AI and machine learning for both readmission prevention and length of stay management, I've seen firsthand how crucial governance and evidence are in getting physicians on board. Physicians need to understand how and why these technologies work, and they need to be involved in the process. Having a strong physician leader as a dyad partner significantly smooths the implementation journey. 🔑 Key Strategies for Success: 1. Engagement and Education: It's essential to ensure physicians understand the technology and have input in its deployment. 2. Process Integration: We've developed multidisciplinary rounds for our readmission prevention tool to focus on high-risk patients. Additionally, we've instituted follow-up phone calls for all discharges to catch any cases the tool may have missed. These strategies have led to consistently better readmission scores than national averages over the past three years. Remember, AI is a powerful tool, but it's not a cure-all. Personalised Medicine: Neural networks at Metadvice provide treatment recommendations based on individual demographic and phenotypic characteristics, surpassing standard guidelines. This approach is vital in managing multi-morbidity. Real-World Optimisation: AI can be used to understand the real-world profile of medicines in the post-approval phase, enhancing the evidence base for better reimbursement and formulary decisions. Our discussion emphasises that benefit-risk assessment should prioritise the individual, not just groups.
