Empowering Voices of Refugee Youth In today's video on our Youtube channel, check out this powerful snippet from the Refugee Youth Summit, where our team lead, Simon Marot Touloung, passionately addresses the urgent need for refugee youth to share their own stories. “If there are people who are writing refugee stories, why do we have others coming from outside to tell our stories in the refugee settlements?” he challenges. Simon poses thought-provoking questions that resonate deeply with our mission: “Do we want to wait for tomorrow to see the change we need, or is tomorrow now?” “What kind of leadership do we envision for our communities, and what is the leadership we currently lack?” These words remind us that the power of storytelling and creative expression is essential for advocacy and change. It’s time for refugee youth to seize the narrative and lead the charge! Watch the full video to see how integrating arts and culture can empower youth to become advocates for their own futures: https://lnkd.in/dv3SJHiT Let’s spark a conversation! How can we support refugee youth in sharing their stories? Every day, families around the world navigate challenges and celebrate triumphs together. For refugee families, however, separation can overshadow these everyday moments. The importance of family unity transcends borders and circumstances. In my role with UNHCR, I've seen the resilience of families striving to reunite amidst complex and often lengthy bureaucratic processes. We must advocate for faster and simpler family reunification procedures to help refugee families find their #HopeAwayFromHome. Join me in supporting this vital cause. Let's ensure that the principle of family unity can become a reality for all who have been forcibly displaced. Together, we can make a difference. #FamilyReunification #UNHCR #HumanitarianAwareness #RefugeeSupport
Like all families, refugee families belong together. On #DayOfFamilies and every day, we’re calling for faster and simpler family reunification procedures so that refugee families can find #HopeAwayFromHome together.

My father was a refugee. He fled communist Poland in the '70s. I grew up listening to stories of resilience and determination, but I would not be here today if it weren't for the fact that my father was given asylum right away and welcomed into the US with open arms. Today is World Refugee Day, and the same cannot be said for the 114 million refugees that are present around the world today. Their stories often go unheard, overshadowed by statistics and stereotypes. This is one of the many reasons why I co-founded The Hybrid Tours. Together with Our World Too, we aim to amplify the voices of those who have experienced displacement firsthand and to rehumanize the refugee narrative. Here's the catch: this is done through travel. At The Hybrid Tours, we don't just visit. We are about connection, education, and impact. Our unique travel experiences allow participants to engage deeply with local communities, learning from those who have lived through displacement. Through our travels, we foster understanding and empathy, bridging the gap between cultures and creating lasting, positive change. And we, of course, have fun while doing so. That's why we're a hybrid - the best of both worlds. Trips like ours are usually only offered by research institutes and universities. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in these transformative experiences. We aim to broaden the impact of our work, making it accessible to all who are willing to listen, learn, and advocate for a better world. On this day, let us honor the resilience of refugees and commit to changing the narrative. Join us in our journey to create a more inclusive and compassionate world through meaningful travel and storytelling. Travel is, after all, one of the keys to making the world a better place. #WorldRefugeeDay #TheHybridTours #OurWorldToo #RefugeeVoices #TravelWithPurpose #ChangeTheNarrative
🌍 Today, on World Refugee Day, we stand together to honor the courage, resilience, and strength of refugees worldwide. In the face of unimaginable adversity, millions of people have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and a better future. As global citizens, it is our duty to support and uplift these individuals, offering them the compassion and opportunities they deserve. Let us commit to fostering inclusive communities and advocating for policies that protect their rights. Together, we can create a world where every refugee is welcomed, valued, and given the chance to thrive. 🤝🌟 #WorldRefugeeDay #WithRefugees #GlobalSolidarity #HumanRights #thehybridtours

I had an opportunity last week for World Refugee Day to interview with BBC News around family Reunification. As someone who has experienced family separation, I know all too well what that is like. How many more years will refugee families have to wait to be together again? Some may never see their loved ones again. We need the Administration to: -Alleviate the existing backlogs of individual cases, so families can quickly be reunited. -Expand the Parole Porgram to be global. -Scale up and invest in community sponsorship. -And reverse course on the recent Exective Order (212F) on people seeking asylum - as it is creating more family separation. It is a valid and legal pathway for people to seek asylum. Resettlement and Asylum save lives & we need to continue to expand it.
Nejra Sumic, Refugee Congress Delegate for Arizona and National Field Manager for We Are All America, gave an interview with BBC News on World Refugee Day. Nejra shared about her experiences with forced displacement and family separation, acknowledge US efforts to resettle 100,000 refugees this year, and noted the need to further reunite families that have been separated. “The United States is a welcoming country,” she said. “The United States has done very well in welcoming those who have been forcibly displaced; however, there are still things that the Administration can do to speed up the family reunification process in order to bring families together.” #RCLeads #RefugeeCongress #WAAA #USRAB

An important read!
In this The Conversation Canada piece, co-authored with Allan Reesor-McDowell (Matthew House Ottawa), we share preliminary findings from our joint research project on the right to housing for refugee claimants with Delphine Nakache (uOttawa COMMON LAW) & Azar Masoumi (Carleton University). Ahead of Refugee Rights Day, which celebrates the 1985 Singh decision affirming that refugee claimants are protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, we propose three key recommendations. https://lnkd.in/gzhMsRgt
