In terms of professional development, I certainly do believe that we, as experienced professionals, have a moral obligation to prepare the next generation for the world they are preparing to navigate and lead. We have significant generational divides in our society that can be reduced and mitigated with intentionality and investment. Mr Jones perfectly captures this with his point about teaching young professionals how to partner, build, develop, and construct. I know many leaders around Kansas City who invest heavily in mentorship, supporting wonderful internship and scholarship opportunities. These are the bricks upon which our future is built.

Joseph Steigerwaldt, a senior in finance, has dedicated his last three years to being a student leader, helping those around him succeed. 👏 Joseph serves as a Business Learning Team (BLT) peer mentor, helping incoming first-year students transition successfully into Ivy. Our first Shared-Leadership Network kicked off with the topic of Keeping Students at the Center of Decision-Making. THIS IS WHAT WE LEARNED: Leaders who share decision-making responsibilities engage families and students in intentionally grounding each decision, big or small, in their co-created and identified shared purpose. Here are some examples ⬇️ ➡️ The team decided to have a late start because research shows teenagers need more sleep. ➡️ The team chose to have a minimum of two days per week to allow students to have after-school internships and teachers to have collaboration time. ➡️ The team decided to offer a self-directed, project-based learning program and allow students to earn credits for classes outside of their district’s scope and sequence. ➡️ The team decided to use technology to allow students to move at their own individual pace. ➡️ The team decided to offer credit outside of traditional classes, for example, PE credit when students track their steps, miles, and heart rate walking or riding bikes to school. 🌟Historic Milestone for Columbia University's Technology Management Program🌟 I am thrilled to share an exhilarating update from Columbia University Technology Management. In a historic town hall meeting, a groundbreaking decision was made – offering students the flexibility to pursue full-time internships while completing their course in an accelerated 1.5 years, instead of the usual 1 year. This is a monumental shift, one that embodies the dynamic, real-world applicability of our program. As the Program Representative, I've had the privilege and challenge of working tirelessly to bring this initiative to fruition. It's a proud moment for me, personally and professionally, to have played a pivotal role in this significant development. This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of some remarkable individuals. A heartfelt thank you to Alexis Wichowski the Director of the Technology Management Program; Erik Nelson, Ph.D. Nelson, Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs; Tiffany Hughes, Ed.D. , Associate Dean of Graduate Programs; and Liz Pickard , Associate Director of Administration. Your commitment to understanding and addressing our needs for practical, hands-on experience through full-time internships has been instrumental in shaping this decision. Intern Spotlight (and birthday shoutout!) for our very own Joshua Weidenfeller. When Joshua's friends ask what he does at work he says that he connects with healthcare leaders and facilitates meaningful conversations that help our team understand how we can best help our partners better understand their patients throughout their care journey. However, during lunch this summer, he found time to have some fun. One of his favorite NRC Health memories was having sandwich-eating competitions with fellow interns. Joshua thanks Business Development Manager, Dillon McKinney as one of his most impactful mentors. "Working on the type of accounts Business Development Executives work on has given me a unique perspective on how large deals come to fruition, and what it takes from a sales professional side to push the deal across the finish line." Joshua's Fun Facts: -His favorite book is Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne. -When he was younger he wanted to become a business owner, not in any specific area. -His favorite thing about going to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is how big the campus is. Rarely have I had more fun than in the last 10 weeks with this year's New Jersey State Policy Lab Summer Internship 2024 cohort. What a joy it has been to work with every single person involved in this program. These young scholars knocked it out of the park with their final presentations and I can't wait for you all to see their work on the New Jersey State Policy Lab website! Think Michigan State, the University of Kentucky, and Penn State. 💼 Career Success Ingredients: Life skills and initiative matter more than the college name. While Ivy League schools may open doors, it’s what students do in college that counts.
