Thompson Palm Springs - Accepting Reservations starting September 5 is in the process of installing Jeffery Gibson’s “The Land is Speaking… Are You Listening,” a reconfigured 70ft glass mosaic mural located just outside of the ballroom area. Jeffrey Gibson, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, is known for merging traditional Native American materials and forms with those of Western contemporary art to create a new hybrid visual vocabulary. His pieces often contain rich patterns with traditional Indigenous handwork while also taking inspiration from alternative subcultures, minimalism and other modernist movements. Gibson was chosen to represent the United States in the 2024 Venice Biennale and is the first Native American artist to receive this honor. #hallgroup #thompsonpalmsprings #jefferygibson

The artists featured in this exhibition capture what it means to be seen on their own terms, all while rallying viewers to consider what it means to be seen by others in societal spaces. Contributing artists Ibrahem Hasan, Christopher Paul Jordan, Alim Ringgold, Samantha Wall, and SHAN Wallace use a range of materials and mediums to emphasize the dynamism of the communities they derive from and the necessity to be seen in order to find human and cultural connections.
