But it got me thinking—days are just days, and it’s people and our perspective that make them great. So, if you're feeling a bit off today, maybe take a moment to think about someone else and reach out to them. Is 'blue monday' legitimate or just another abstract date that doesn't really mean anything? Let's face it there are 'awareness days' for everything - I'm looking at you National Shortbread Day (Jan 6th for those who celebrate); so do we need to pay attention to this one? My answer, no. I get that today we might feel naff. We might also feel down tomorrow. February can suck too. And believe it or not, it's pretty common to feel 'blue' on a beautiful sunny day in June. I've seen a few comments in recent years slandering Blue Monday; it's misinformation from poorly executed research as a PR stunt to encourage holiday sales. Whilst the day might be arbitrary, we can't deny it helps spark conversation about mental health. But it's important to recognise our emotions, have self-awareness and share our feelings all year round. I'd suggest using this day to find small things that will perk you up when you're feeling down. Call a friend, really savour that 3pm brew, pick up a sweet treat on the way home from work, spend an extra 15mins outdoors etc. What small action can you take to be kinder to yourself? (Feel free to share yours in the comments; if you tell others about it, you're more likely to do it!). For me, I will start the day by blasting this anthem at a ridiculous volume...
