Please join Monterey Bay Aquarium and our colleagues in the Aquarium Conservation Partnership by adding your name to our petition for strong action on #PlasticPollution by telling President Biden and the United States government: There is #NoTimeToWaste! Each day we learn more about the harm that results from the tide of plastic engulfing our planet: harm to our health, to our communities, to wildlife, and to ecosystems. Now we have a real opportunity to do something about it. Your voice is critical in the process. This month – Earth Month 2024 – representatives from the United States and over 160 other countries will meet in Ottawa, Canada to draw up the critical blueprint for a first-ever Global Plastic Treaty. It’s a critical moment for the development of a historic global treaty to end plastic pollution. To make the treaty strong and effective, the United States must be a leader in demanding bold action. The Aquarium and Environmental Law Institute just released a report confirming that the U.S. has all the authority it needs – under existing federal law – to move forward at home and internationally. When we stand together and speak out, we can take the bold action needed to safeguard our health and the health of our ocean planet for generations. Today is #GiveMiamiDay, an event which collects funds for NGO and social/green initiatives! I am part of @Cleanmiamibeach, an association that tries to fight plastic pollution in the ocean through education, cleanups, art workshops and political actions! I’ve created my own fundraising to collect $500 to help them achieve more in 2024. Anyone who has ever lived in Miami Beach or visited this amazing city is part of the equation: even in our effort to consume less plastic and recycle, we are still using plastic packaging or ustensiles. Think to the many restaurants that serves your drinks in plastic cups or to the boat party where you used the famous red plastic cup. Only 8% of the plastic is recycled in the US and a part of it still goes in our beautiful ocean, destabilizing the amazing sea life. We have entered this collaboration for the next three years and it fits perfectly with our mission in encouraging great leadership. 📺 THIS WEEK’S Assembly Update: I talk about a new bill I cosponsored, A5906A, to improve New York's food recycling and donation program. 🍏🥦 📊 One-third of all food in the United States goes uneaten, with the majority ending up in landfills or down the drain. 🗑️ This legislation aims to reduce food waste by redirecting usable food from landfills to those in need, cutting down harmful landfill gases, and saving money.💲 🍎 By expanding access to excess food for those in need, this bill helps address food insecurity, while also reducing costs for facilities with excess food production. 📉 💚 Let's make our state greener and more compassionate together! #FoodRecycling #Environment #CommunitySupport 🌱🌟
