Addressing the community to create awareness about the issue of out-of-school children. By engaging with local stakeholders, including parents, community leaders, and organizations, we can highlight the importance of education and the impact of children being out of school.

There are numerous examples of excellent #schoolleaders positively transforming what goes on inside the school fence without it impacting on the school’s #reputation in the #community. The sad thing about this is that many prospective parents will be more influenced by the reputation of the school in the community than by what the school has to offer their children.

They say it takes a village to raise a child - and it takes a village to educate one, too. 💙
Diverse strengths make for a powerful support network in special education. So how can we maximize our strengths to lift each other up?

Community is invited to join a new Burnie Works Action Group for the Middle Years Project.
Last year, Communities for Children Burnie and Burnie Works explored how families of primary school-aged children access and navigate supports in Burnie. The aim: to co-design a product or service to meet community needs.
We call it the Middle Years project. It is for families with children aged 5 to 12 years (Prep to Year 6).
🔸NEXT STEP: Build an Action Group to help guide us as we move into the next stage - turning your ideas into reality!
We are holding a 'Come and Try' workshop on Thursday 7 March. This will give you a chance to come and see what it's about. It will be an opportunity to dip your toes in and see if it’s right for you – no pressure.
🔸DETAILS🔸
📆When: Thursday 7 March
⏰Time: 10am to 1pm
🏠Location: Burnie Surf Life Saving Club
Facilitated by Fiona Miller, grassroots worker, and facilitator. Yummy morning tea. Safe and welcoming space.
We have $100,000 to create something that the community wants and has designed. We will trial and test this work and collect the data to inform change for the future. Imagine if we design something here in Burnie that changes people’s lives, and we get to keep it going! If it doesn’t work as we thought we learn from this experience, and we try again! We get to say what success looks like for us. We need community to lead the way.

In creating the Bloomsburg Area YMCA - Community Resource Hub, our team has created five distinct goals that we aim towards every single day so that we can best serve ALL of Columbia and Mountour County residents.
The official unveiling of the CRH is coming soon, but in the meantime, our team is preparing by doing all we can to best understand the resources available.
GOALS:
1. Create a Community Hub that is designed to meet the everchanging needs of the community and provide safe, confidential services that strengthen family life and individual growth.
2. Serve more people through programs and services that fulfill community needs by being the premier provider of community programming.
3. Provide more Y-based counseling and services for children and adults in schools, homes and the community.
4. Foster connections between the YMCA and the Community by becoming a preferred community partner.
5. Broaden the ability to serve a larger audience by providing the resources needed in the community.
The process described below is crucial to proactively make system adjustments, rather than waiting until the end of the year.
It can be difficult to pinpoint what drives your results, which is why we've made significant investments in technology such as “Real” to help our school system partners achieve this despite limited resources.
Truly enjoyed HGSE's Education Now discussion about Family & Community Engagement in Schools!! The panelists, Karen Mapp, Eyal Bergman, Ed.L.D., and Dr. Shadae Harris spoke from both research & practice in the field. Josephine M. Kim was a phenomenal facilitator drawing connections & raising poignant questions.
Their 30 minute discussion is worth the listen & drove home some enduring truths about this work. https://lnkd.in/eJP6cZhp
Here are some of my takeaways:
1. Relational trust between families & schools is everything & there are NO shortcuts to building it.
2. Strong family engagement should be a primary goal of schools rather than a "nice to have" because it leads to tangible, positive outcomes for students.
3. Acknowledging the hurts or traumas a community has faced is essential to repairing broken family-school relationships.
The critical partnership between parents and schools in a child's development highlights several important points:
1. **Foundational Role of Parents**: Parents are the primary influencers of a child's early values and behavior. The family environment sets the initial framework for a child's understanding of the world, their ethics, and their social skills.
2. **Schools as Key Developmental Partners**: Schools complement the foundational work of parents by providing structured education, socialization opportunities, and exposure to diverse perspectives. Teachers and school staff play significant roles in guiding academic and personal growth.
3. **Importance of Collaboration**: Effective communication and collaboration between parents and schools can enhance the child's learning experience. When both parties work together, they can address any issues more efficiently and support the child's overall well-being.
4. **Holistic Development**: A child benefits most when both their home and school environments are aligned in their educational and developmental goals. This alignment ensures a consistent approach to nurturing the child's intellectual, emotional, and social development.
5. **Community Support**: The concept of raising a child as a team effort underscores the value of community involvement. It takes a collective effort to provide children with the best opportunities for success and well-being.
By embracing this partnership, parents and schools can create a robust support system that fosters the growth of well-rounded, capable, and resilient individuals.

The deepening crisis around school attendance affects all of us, including families at home and the numbers are increasingly concerning.
So what can we actually do, realistically, in our own settings, to dismantle barriers to school attendance so that every child, in every setting, can thrive and fulfil their potential?
Take a look at our latest think piece, People Not Numbers: Dismantling Barriers to School Attendance, where we explore student absence, reframing the attendance crisis and the role of family engagement.
