Today, the Hikoi (peaceful March) against the Treaty Principles Bill reached Parliament. Seeing Māori and Pākehā walk together in solidarity was profound reminder that Te Tiriti o Waitangi is more than words on paper—it is the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand, a cornerstone of our national identity, and a commitment to partnership between Māori and the Crown. It’s troubling that we find ourselves in a position where the principles underpinning Te Tiriti are even up for debate. The Treaty is not a historical relic; it’s a living commitment that shapes who we are as a nation and how we should move forward—together. The introduction of measures that challenge this partnership raises important questions: Are we honouring our founding commitment, or are we allowing it to be diluted and questioned in ways that undermine its significance? For Māori, who make up nearly 18% of our population yet face persistent disadvantages in health, income, and education, this is not just a policy debate; it’s about equity, recognition, and upholding promises that have too often been overlooked. Today’s Hikoi was a testament to the strength and unity of those who believe that Te Tiriti must be protected, respected, and honoured. The interest of employers is a quality and professional workforce in order to achieve better business results. In the previous period, the Union of Employers of Serbia tried to point out the need for quality education and training within Serbia, given that our country is developing, that new business arrangements are being opened and that the need for professional staff is rapidly emerging. India is a country with exceptional economic growth, which has quality education in the IT sector, pharmacy, healthcare, transport and construction, is one of the leaders of the BRICS countries, and it is very important for us that Serbia builds good business relations with India. The Indian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce works under the auspices and in cooperation with the Embassy of India.
