To wrap up World Alzheimer’s Month, we have summarised some of the greatest challenges and opportunities in this devastating disease. Our work with Alzheimer's Society investigated the following areas, revealing some sobering headline figures: • The annual cost of dementia – the total cost of dementia in the UK is growing, from £42 billion in 2024 to £90 billion in 2040 📈 • Dementia’s contribution to health metrics - 1 in 6 hospital beds are occupied by dementia patients at any given time, with nearly 1 million A&E visits 🚑 • The impact of early diagnosis and treatment - for individuals where AChE inhibitors are effective, early diagnosis and treatment could save up to £45,000* per person 💊 The findings further highlight the pressing need to address dementia’s profound impact on individuals, families, healthcare systems, and the economy.
