- Junior engineer -> Delivers a task. - Mid-level engineer -> Delivers a project. - Senior+ engineer -> Delivers a standard. Some of the best engineers I know seem to be working always on docs or proofs of concept. They don't speed up the deliveries of each team by working in the sprint. However, they increase the entire organization's delivery speed through the practices they set in place. What other traits do you love of the senior engineers around you? #softwareengineering #careergrowth

One of the most important qualities an engineer can have is the desire and ability to take ownership of the applications they work on. When you work on technical products, there inevitably ends up being a ton of things that cover multiple technical areas or domains. If you are someone that doesn't take ownership it is easy to simply say "not my problem". Individuals that take ownership of the applications will do whatever they can to track down issues and work with others to push things forward. If you are a manager and are hiring individuals and want to improve the quality of your software, look for more folks that have demonstrated this ability to take ownership. If you are an engineer and looking to progress in your career, my best advice to you is to always help wherever you can. Take ownership of the applications you work on and the company that employs you will find you far more valuable than others that just "do a thing".

🚀 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆? 🚗 In the fast-paced world of automotive engineering, where innovation and technological advancements are at the forefront, understanding the motivations that drive engineers becomes paramount. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, so too do the factors that influence professionals within it. Let's see what motivates Software Test Engineers, Software Engineers, and Software Engineers Autosar when they consider changing jobs. 🔎 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 🔎 It's all about getting better! Software Test Engineers are primarily motivated by opportunities for 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, especially focusing on development in a specific field or technology. Additionally, they are looking for chances to grow and dreaming of a bigger paycheck and specific 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 - such as contracts, flexible hours, or the option for on-site or fully remote work. 💻 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿💻 Now, Software Engineers are a bit different. They exhibit a strong emphasis on 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 like their counterparts, but what’s interesting, their motivator for changing jobs is internal 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮! Which were cited more frequently than higher salary. Additionally, working within the 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 is significant for software engineers. 🔌 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗿: 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 🔌 Software autosar engineers are primarily motivated to change job because of striking 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and fueled by the frustration in their current jobs. But it's not all bad; 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 and 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 are also vital for fostering motivation and job satisfaction among Autosar Software Engineers, which naturally goes hand in hand a big fat paycheck. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲? 🤔😃 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻! Here's a quick litmus test for whether your company is thinking about 'value' rather than just cash: how does the approval process to spend £300 compare with the approval process to invite 8 senior engineers to a 60-minute meeting?
“A fool is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing” And when it comes to training many organisations are foolish. They consider the cost of the training, but ignore the cost of not doing the training. For example: 💰The typical cost of training is around $1000-$2000. What's the cost of: 💰Losing an experienced engineer and all their knowledge? 💰Hiring a replacement engineer? 💰Getting them productive? 💰Delivering late because your team is running below capacity? 💰Allowing critical problems to go undetected? 💰Fixing technical debt caused by inexperience? Most $100K problems have $1K solutions.

What do software engineers want? Career development. ❌ “Sounds good, we’ll create a career ladder!” Career ladders are time-consuming to create, mis-incentivize behavior, and don’t align with your company’s goals. Instead, create clear roles where engineers take on more responsibility over time. ✅ Involve them in scoping. ✅ Have them meet with stakeholders. ✅ Let them make technical investments. I can help you define these roles. Text or DM me! #SoftwareEngineering #HumanScaledEngineering #Fractional
