IT’S GRILL TO GIVE DAY!!🍔🌭 We’re cooking up some hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken for a few homeless and an assisted living home. …and once again, I’m pausing my vegan diet to partake in some juicy grilled turkey sausage. 😂😉😋 The best thing about Grill to Give is that you can join in the fun as well. Here’s how: 1. Grill 10 extra hamburgers or hot dogs. 2. Package them with chips, water, and a dessert. 3. Give them to someone in need of food. Your generosity can make a big difference in someone's day. If you choose to give, please remember to: - Exercise safety - Use the buddy system - Stay hydrated Let's spread the love and help our neighbors! Share your efforts with us using the hashtag #Grill2Give. Together, we can grill for a cause! 🌭🍔❤️ #Grill2Give #IndependenceDay #GiveBack #Community #4thofJuly 👍 Like and 🔄 Share to spread the word!

⏭️Don't be ashamed of collecting leftover food from restaurants for lovely dogs! Just a reminder that it's unbelievably amazing if you have the resources to donate "fancy" items to food pantries. I once cried when I received a small jar of Trader Joe's organic almond butter at a pantry. I was brought to tears once when I went to a pantry with a freezer on my birthday and was a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream I was able to snag. (Benefits of arriving early and being first in line). Yes, beggars can't be choosers. But if you REALLY want to make some poor peoples' days this holiday season, instead of volunteering at a soup kitchen, gather kids or friends and go grocery shopping and buy all the fancy shelf stable stuff. The imported tonno tuna in olive oil. Mixed olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Dried imported salamis. Fancy mustards and salsas and sauces for pasta and proteins. Pestos and fun trail mix and yummy crackers. (Note: don't take things that require refrigeration/freezing unless you know for sure that pantry has that type of storage - most don't). You may help someone create a special meal for themselves that gives them the strength to fight another day, or to create a special meal for a loved one celebrating a birthday or their anniversary. You may even bring someone to tears with gratitude for the stranger who helped them feel like their joy matters for just one single moment. #realtalk #poverty #advice #foodpantries

Friends, as you know, I enjoy cooking for company events, charitable events, and of course, family and friends. If you are not from Louisiana, Maryland, or New Jersey, you might have never been invited to a real "crab boil", that is a Blue Crab boil. If you are invited to one, these are the rules you should abide by so make sure you study the Ten Commandments of Eating Blue Crab: #1 When buying crabs, order mediums when you’re having guests over. Order larges for you and your better half. Order jumbos when ain’t nobody within 500 feet. And smalls are just rude... we don’t do dat! #2 Every picking style is both right and wrong. Legs first? Apron first? Butter knife? Mallet? Vinegar? Save your claws to the end? Just don’t wear a baby bib... we don’t do dat! #3 Once you touch a crab, IT'S YOURS. None of this weighing-each-crab-with-your-hand stuff... #4 With pizza, everyone gets the same number of slices. But with crabs, it’s like: 3...2...1...EVERYONE EATS AS MANY CRABS AS YOU CAN AND SCREW THOSE SLOW EATERS!! #5 You’re being monitored. By everyone. Not cleaning your crab completely? You’ll get called out. Not eating your claws? You won’t be invited back... #6 Don’t dare ask anyone to pick a crab for you. You pick crabs for yourself. If you’re a newbie, we’ll teach you ONCE, so pay attention. If you pull off a meaty backfin, show it off! If you cut yourself, keep eating. No tears... we don’t do dat... #7 If you leave the table to wash your hands, you become everyone’s personal slave until you’re back. Take orders, clear shells, get hair ties. Grab me another beer, etc... dat’s how it works... #8 Crabs are just an appetizer. Three hours of snacks before you fire up the grill. Have some corn, shrimp, tomatoes, and Zapp’s in the meantime... dats how we do it... #9 The last man/mom standing at the table gets bragging rights. “You guys done already?” she asks... show her some respect and clean up after the last one standing... dats how we do it... #10 If you’re invited to a crab feast, that means you’re special. We don’t just invite anybody over. It’s love. Be sure to say, “Good crabs!” or “Really full!” or “Lots of mustard!” even when they’re crap... dats just how we do it... Most of all...“Laissez les bon temps rouler!” Jack, did we miss anything?

"Remember -- your love for bacon can make a big difference!" Funny, but true. There is a serious side to this too. The Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank is a great organization, and symbolic of many which are responding to food insecurity in our communities. In our particular case our Bank serves, at some point during the year, about 5 percent of our county's population - distributing $5M of food across 16,000+ guest encounters. All of this is made possible by roughly 120 volunteers whose work seems never ending. Those we serve are primarily referred to as ALICE (asset-limited, income-constrained, and employed). In other words, neighbors in situations where one car repair, medical bill, or unexpected expense can force a difficult decision about food. A full 40 percent of those we serve in a year come only once. 70 percent receive food from us four times or less in a year. In our county, and probably yours too, up to 35 percent of our residents fall into the ALICE classification. Those are really staggering numbers when you think about them. And food for thought as well (sorry). If all those numbers seem daunting, come and celebrate some bacon with us! 😁 #foodinsecurity #foodbank #neighborshelpingneighbors

🍏Is it possible to reimagine the food system into one that looks and sounds abundant vs scarce? 🥦Can a nonprofit partner with a for-profit business and do even more good? 🫑Can food scarcity be solved by simply having better logistics and nimble business models? 🥬Do we actually have twice the amount of food needed to feed everyone experiencing food insecurity in our state? The answers to all of these questions are YES. https://lnkd.in/g-mrwt6H

Why desserts? It’s a solid question. Abundant Harvest Kitchen and Bistro’s mission is to feed, nourish and transform. We feed 106k families every year, so why have fancy desserts and unhealthy food options for families already struggling to put basic proteins and vegetables on their table? When you’re food insecure, you stop celebrating. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations … all those happy moments end. These families stop celebrating life. Gratitude becomes more and more scarce and hopelessness becomes incredibly real. Solving food insecurity isn’t just about providing food … it’s about bringing joy back into a family’s life. Want to help? We have plenty of opportunities. Hire our #bistro for your next event or help us sponsor outreach ideas. Partner with us. Volunteer with us. First, reach out to us and let’s discuss solutions. #feednourishtransform #foodinsecurity #communityimpact

Everything's better with #Donuts. Do you fancy one? It’s #NationalDonutDay, so make it simple and sweet. Imagine it melting in your mouth, bringing honey and joy to your spirit. You are, indeed, eating a donut. Best wishes on Beautiful National Donut Day. Some people say, “One can not buy happiness, but one can buy donuts”. If eating donuts makes you happy, eat them today to commemorate National Donut Day in the #UnitedKingdom. Although eating sugar can make you gain weight, I care more about enjoyment than weight. So don’t feel bad for eating donuts. If you eat a healthy diet, occasionally indulging in donuts will make no difference. #Choose the classic sugared donut, which is the most nutritious on the #Market. It’s the weekend, and I just bought a large box of classic donuts to share with the people I will pass on my way. I am confident that everyone will say #YES to accepting a delicious donut from a sweet woman like me. P.S. Donuts are a favorite among all of my Ya-Hub Translations colleagues. Who are we? https://lnkd.in/erXh6Tpk
