✨️✨️✨️She was ahead of her time in this profession✨️✨️✨️... ✍️Florence Nightingale's quote, "I think one's feelings waste themselves in words; they ought to be distilled into actions which bring results," caught my eye while reading the Nurse Preceptor Program Builder by Diana Swihart. It was enlightening to understand why this was placed at the top of the Orientation and Competency chapter. The idea of transforming feelings into actions aligns closely with competency-based orientation and assessment for several reasons: 1. Action-Oriented: It emphasizes the practical application of skills, moving beyond mere discussion. 2. Measurable Outcomes: It focuses on achieving tangible results and meeting performance standards. 3. Continuous Improvement: It encourages ongoing development through consistent practice. 4. Feedback and Adaptation: It involves regular feedback and adjustments to foster growth. Both the quote and competency-based approaches advocate for meaningful actions over mere words, aiming for specific, measurable results. Florence was indeed ahead of her time in this profession!!

I agree that this book is a must-read. The author makes the case that creating psychological safety & a speak-up culture benefits safety, organizational productivity, and creativity.
In her book “The Fearless Organization” Amy Edmondson in her second chapter list reasons why people do not speak up.. I read it and was simply amazed at the accuracy of this list. Just take a look at the first two… this book is a must read on our shared journey for safety and high reliability! It’s hard to believe it’s been almost two years since I worked my last night shift. I remember braiding my hair, swiping my badge, and walking out the door, ending a nine-year chapter. When I first got hired, it felt like I had reached the top. I had dreamed of working at this hospital since my nursing school days. My daughter was born there, and I vividly recall the magic of that moment. I fought hard for the job, competing with over 1,000 applicants, and it felt like winning the lottery. It was a wonderful place to work, the first hospital in the country to be Magnet-accredited four times, with gleaming hallways, world-class doctors, and high pay. I often wondered, “How did I get so lucky?” Yet, something was missing. Despite having the most coveted nursing job, I knew deep down I couldn't stay there forever. In January 2021, the universe gave me a sign. I was penalized for my beliefs, and the stress and anxiety that followed made me realize I needed a drastic change. That's when I discovered holistic nursing. Over the last three years, I’ve built a coaching practice, helped hundreds of people, and come closer to my soul’s purpose. It hasn’t been easy, but I know I’m on the right path, despite the fear and doubt. If there’s a voice inside you nudging you toward something greater, listen. Ignoring it costs more than taking the leap. If you're curious about finding your true soul's purpose, click the link in the comments for a FREE consultation call! Nursing|SDG advocacy|Public health|Personal and Community development|Project Management| Founder - Emerging Nurses Network.
As young professionals, we often struggle with decision-making, especially when we're still discovering ourselves. I've been there too! It's like taking a multiple-choice test where all the options seem equally right, and the fear of choosing the wrong one can be overwhelming. But I learned a helpful trick from a book, eliminate the obviously wrong choices, and then pick from the remaining two best options. This principle has guided my decision-making process ever since. In essence, when seeking to make a decision or achieve a goal, it's essential to eliminate anything that doesn't align with our objectives. This approach can significantly simplify the decision-making process As the renowned author and speaker, Brian Tracy, once said: "Decision is the ultimate power. Everything else is just a means to an end. The ability to make decisions is what distinguishes humans from animals. For young nurses at the edge of deciding what specialization to go for take your time to: - List all the specializations available - Write down your holistic long-term goals and aspirations (10-15 years) - Remember, your current choice will either bring you closer to or further from your dream Once you've done this, cross-check your list with your goals. Eliminate the ones that are not related to your goals and choose the best option, knowing that your choice remains flexible and open to change as the world keeps evolving. Embrace this decision, as it will lead to new opportunities. Don't settle for whatever comes your way, as some nurses do, and then blame the profession for their stagnation. Seek guidance from experienced professionals who love their job, despite its challenges. They'll tell you how fulfilling nursing can be. Happy new week, and I hope this tip is helpful to you #Nursingprofession #Growthanddevelopment #Decisionmaking
