For divers and anyone interested in the importance of marine protected areas, check out a recent article I wrote on the subject!!!
From the cenotes of Mexico to Raja Ampat's reefs, divers witness both the beauty and the decline of our oceans. While rising sea temperatures and coral bleaching threaten marine life, there is still hope. With over 29 million divers and PADI’s global network, we are making a powerful impact on ocean conservation and working to restore these vital ecosystems. Sea turtles hold significant cultural, social and ecological value within the Marine Park. They may have lived on Earth for millions of years, but they are not immune from the same threats facing the Great Barrier Reef - such as climate change, coastal development, marine debris and illegal fishing. 🐢 Did you know that the Southern Great Barrier Reef - or the area just north of Mackay to just north of Bundaberg - contains internationally significant nesting sites for green and loggerhead turtles as well as important foraging sites for green, loggerhead and hawksbill turtles? It’s part of the reason why Southern Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owners and the Reef Authority are collaborating with Queensland National Parks to develop the Southern Plan of Management. This planning process represents a new chapter in marine park management and will help to safeguard all values of the Marine Park while allowing for multiple uses in a sustainable manner. Feedback from the first round of public consultation held earlier this year is now available and will be considered in developing the Draft Plan. 21 September 2024 International Coastal Cleanup Day. 🌐 #InternationalCoastalCleanupDay got its start in 1986. Since that time, the Cleanup has grown into an international event in more than 100 countries. Celebrated annually, the International Coastal Clean-Up Day is an initiative that aims to raise awareness on the problem of marine litter. It is a global event that promotes local clean-up actions on beaches, coastal areas, rivers, lagoons, and other waterways. I have been working in #MaritimeLaw environment for many years now. And the main object of my study is the Caspian Sea. The #CaspianSea is an inland body of water that does not have a direct connection with the World Ocean, and therefore cannot be considered as a sea, but at the same time, due to its size, water composition and bottom characteristics, it cannot be a lake. The Caspian Sea is a unique ecosystem, and on the eve of International Coastal Cleanup Day, I want to encourage everyone who is close to the Caspian Sea to be the part of this process of Cleanup. #4ocean #environment #awaza

Demand for Arctic cruises costing upwards of $10,000 has surged in the past decade. The environment is paying a far higher price. Melanie Weber, who saved for five years for the experience, told The Washington Post: “I might be the last generation that gets to see this.” Read a summary of the story here: https://lnkd.in/eCvHu_JX #arctic #cruises #arctictoday #arcticregion #tourism #environment #globalwarming #climatechange #luxurycruise #icebergs #denmark #iceland #norway #greenland #finland #leisure #wildlife #climatecrisis Photo: IMAGO/Steinsiek.ch via Reuters Connect

What does Blue Mind science and practice have to do with stopping and reversing the biodiversity crisis? A lot. And it may hold the key to fixing what we’ve broken here on Earth. #bluemind #neuroconservation #biodiversity #mindfulness #wellbeing #natureheals #seaturtles #conservation #worldbiodiversityday #oceanwildlife

The True Value of Sea Turtles When the value of sea turtles to humans is reduced to what’s easily measured with our standard metrics and sorely limited resources, we run the risk of getting things dangerously wrong. #worldturtleday

The next serious fire accident in a marina. 22 yachts were destroyed, and the damage ran into millions of euros. Suppose it turns out that lithium-ion batteries were the cause or acted as an accelerant. In that case, there is a possibility that environmental pollution through toxic smoke occurred, which would greatly increase the damage. We offer the right solutions to avoid fire on board caused by e.g. watertoys lithium-ion batteries. We have developed the Raclan Square Boxes and the Raclan Maritime Battery Safety Systems - RAMBSS modules to charge and store watertoys batteries including Seabob (integrated batteries) safely. https://lnkd.in/dFVhXKXF

Help Protect Our Reef with Safe Anchoring Practices: As stewards of the Great Barrier Reef, we all have a role in preserving this fragile ecosystem. By following a few simple steps, you can help prevent damage to coral and safeguard the reef for future generations: ✅ Use public moorings where available, and avoid anchoring in protected zones. ✅ Anchor in sand or mud, well away from coral—look for flat, smooth areas using your sounder. ✅ Never wrap anchor rope or chain around bommies or coral heads. ✅ Anchor before dark and check your swing room for overnight stays. ✅ Use your sand anchor and reef pick properly to minimize impact. ✅ Motor toward your anchor when retrieving it, and pull it up when the line is vertical. ✅ If your anchor is caught, free it by hand—never force it with your boat. ✅ Regularly check to ensure your anchor isn’t dragging. The boat pictured was built from scratch by the very clever Tony Collins — your skipper at All Marine Charters. https://lnkd.in/gn9S8fqn #allmarinecharters #mvmissrankin
