Did You Know? Mother’s Day Edition: Mothers are the most cherished people in our lives. From problem solving to giving the best advice and boosting the confidence of anyone in her presence, moms provide the stability, love and support that children need to grow through every life stage and into adulthood. Being a mother is rewarding, challenging and beautiful. In honor of Mother’s Day, let’s reflect on some facts about this special day that may surprise you! - The first Mother’s Day was declared by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914 after he was persuaded by activist Anna Jarvis to create the holiday. He stated that this was an opportunity to “publicly express our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.” Jarvis started the custom of wearing a carnation to honor mothers and designating white carnations to signify a mother who has passed away. -On Mother’s Day, more phone calls are made than any other day of the year! Phone calls see a rise of 37% on this special day as people take the opportunity to call their moms. -For florists, this holiday is incredibly important. Mother’s Day accounts for twenty five percent of flower sales for the entire year, according to the Society of American Florists. -According to Pew Research, the average age for a first time mom in the United States is now 27 years old. As women are delaying motherhood, the average age has steadily risen over the last decade. -We love to spoil our moms! In 2023, over $35 billion was spent on Mother’s Day. According to the National Retail Federation, shoppers spent on average $274 on gifts to celebrate their mothers. And Mother’s Day cards are essential, with nearly 152 million sent out every year! -Mother’s Day is a global celebration. Although the holidays do not all fall on the same day across the world, families in Canada, Costa Rica, Samoa, Great Britain, Australia, Georgia and Thailand also have a designated day to focus on mom! Happy Mother's Day!!

🎂 Reflections on the joint birthdays 🎉 The past few days have been filled with celebrations, family gatherings, and the joys of shared birthdays. My sister and I, born a year apart, continue to amuse friends and family with our joint birthday celebration. Behind the jokes lies a deeper story, perhaps too intricate for this post. I'd like to share a few reflections from this special time. Lesson #1: Letting go As my niece took charge of planning her mother's 50th birthday celebration, I found myself navigating a shift in roles. Weeks of meticulous planning and countless discussions (lists upon lists and daily video calls) led to a moment of realization—I had to relinquish control. It wasn't easy, and I stumbled along the way. But amidst the chaos, I learned the importance of allowing space for growth and evolution. The reins we hold are borrowed, adorned with the jewels of our efforts. Yet, they must be passed on. My niece's dedication and tireless efforts highlighted the beauty of succession. She orchestrated not one, but two parties to surprise her mom, showcasing resilience and love in the face of exhaustion. In reflection, her accomplishment was nothing short of remarkable. It served as a poignant reminder that true leadership lies in empowering others to shine. Watch out for the upcoming series of posts which reflects on the lessons of this time . #Reflections #BirthdayCelebration #Family #LeadershipLessons

Celebrating birthdays in a fun and meaningful way for those in the helping or service professions. Here are some ideas: For Personal Celebration: Themed Sessions: On your birthday, consider doing a themed session focused on growth, reflection, or gratitude. You could incorporate fun activities like guided meditations or journaling prompts. Client Appreciation: Use your birthday as an opportunity to express gratitude to your clients. You could send out personalized thank-you notes or small tokens of appreciation. *This depends on what type of client or business relationship you have. Mini Workshop or Group Session: Host a special workshop or group session on a topic you love, inviting colleagues to join. This can be a great way to celebrate by sharing your passion and expertise. Creative Expression: Create a piece of art or playlist that reflects your journey as a coach or therapist. Self-Care Day: Take the day to indulge in self-care activities that you might not usually have time for, such as a spa day, a nature walk, or spending time with loved ones. Another way is to do nothing, but relax and gather with friends or family in the evening. Whatever you decide to do...have a wonderful day!

Let's redefine what birthdays really mean for our little ones Yesterday marked the celebration of my daughter's birthday. As we all happily decorated with balloons, one girl said her birthdays are always "very grand" with big pizzas and fancy return gifts. That got a boy excited, and he said he'd celebrate his next birthday in a 5-star hotel. It got me thinking about how kids see things. Birthdays are meant to be fun times, where friends come together to share joy. It's about enjoying each other's company, making cool memories, and working together. The real deal is all about spreading happiness and building strong friendships. In a world where big celebrations often mean expensive stuff, it's important for kids to know the true meaning of birthdays – a time to celebrate togetherness and make awesome memories that stick with us. 🎉 I have created a simple guide for parents on "Talking to Kids."
