Hey everyone, I've got something cool to show you - a 100% compostable Indian flag we've been working on at Packin Club ( compostable Packaging). It's not for sale yet (coming next Republic Day!), but it got me thinking... This Independence Day, why don't we all try to break free from a bit of plastic in our lives? Here's a little challenge if you're up for it: Swap out one plastic thing you use with something better for the planet Snap a pic of your swap Could you share it and tag 3 friends to join in? Use #Plasticseaazadi so we can all see the creative ideas. I'm inquisitive to see what you come up with. Let's make a small change and see where it takes us. Mr. Hawari, a member of the Dhobi community near Narayanghat, Bharatpur, has been involved in the traditional business of cloth washing for five generations. Initially, his family washed clothes directly in the Narayani River, but now they utilize locally-made machines and tap water from the municipality. Despite changes in their surroundings, such as the growth of hotels and lodges in the area, Mr. Hawari continues his family's legacy. During an interview with Ms. Manisha Bhattarai, our GESI and safeguarding specialist for project CAP, Mr. Hawari highlighted how he has adapted to modern methods while preserving traditional practices. He emphasized that by using tap water and mechanized washing, he contributes to reducing pollution in the Narayani River compared to traditional river washing methods. In the image, Mr. Hawari is folding clothes dried on the riverbank. His dedication not only sustains a longstanding family tradition but also demonstrates a mindful approach to environmental sustainability in his profession. Mr. Hawari stands as a beacon of inspiration for other river-dependent families whose livelihoods are intertwined with nature. Project CAP (Collaborative Approach for Preventing Plastic Leakages in Rivers of Nepal) under Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia is a project that aims to divert plastic waste into product value chain from landfills and rivers by strengthening plastic waste collection mechanism and strengthening recycling efforts through the introduction of technological innovations. While doing so, integrated plastic collection model will be developed by engaging and training vulnerable communities including dhobi community. Empowering Communities, Transforming Lives GemCorp India's Plastic-Free Villages Initiative revolutionizes waste management with the 'Village Clean-up Project' in Momasar, Rajasthan. By involving over 18,000 residents in cleaning up streets and promoting collection and segregation at the source, we have not only cleared over 2,000 tonnes of waste but also instilled a sense of belonging and pride. Our innovative approach, including the introduction of special plastic waste carriers and mini recycling units, sets a scalable model for governments worldwide. Scaling up to 11 more villages, we aim to uplift the lives of over 30,000 people and make the world a cleaner, better place to live in. #gemini #globalimpact #circulareconomy #sustainablefuture #reducereuserecycle #top100 #globaltrade #paperindustry #sustainability #innovation #communityempowerment #environment #environmentalstewardship #environmental #india #belgium #recycling #recycle #wastemanagement #earthmoving #earth

We shook hands and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with #KleanitUpcyclers approximately a month ago to have a technical partner in offering innovative technology for the establishment of a "Plastic Recycling and Upcycling Centre (PRUC)" in Kirtipur. The project's aim is to build this centre to manage unwanted plastic garbage generated by the selected community in Kirtipur, which would then be used for upcycling and recycling in accordance with the circular economy model. The full implementation of circularity in plastic waste would have made a community more robust and dynamic, and we may see improvement in other areas of development. Thank you again for being with us as a technical partner. Such good ideas are always a fresh change
Have you ever wondered how a simple idea can transform waste into a valuable resource? Meet Pavani, a visionary student from Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology in Hyderabad, who turned curiosity into action. Inspired by her experiences in the college’s Eco Club, Pavani embarked on a mission to tackle India’s waste crisis. Witnessing the neglect towards waste segregation during a village outreach, she envisioned a solution: a user-friendly composter to convert organic waste into compost. Thus, in 2020, ‘Future Steps’ was born, co-founded by Pavani and her peers, Mahesh U and Siddhesh Sakore. Their home composting kit, priced affordably at Rs 3,500, swiftly gained traction across Telangana, Maharashtra, New Delhi, and Karnataka. The kit, complete with a special green mix powder, efficiently transforms kitchen waste into compost within just seven days, without the need for artificial heating. Pavani’s innovation not only addresses India’s mounting waste problem but also empowers individuals to actively participate in environmental sustainability. Despite facing scepticism, Pavani remains resolute in her commitment to creating a greener future, one compost kit at a time.
