#Handwriting is deeply connected to cognitive and neurological development, especially for very young learners. 🧠 - Handwriting is unique in that it activates parts of the brain involved with visual word recognition and writing and language production. Unlike #typing or #tracing, handwriting engages these regions more completely which leads to stronger neural connections, fostering literacy development. ✍️ - Because of the #kinesthetic and #visual nature of #writing, the act of forming letters by hand creates more profound and lasting visual and motor pathways leading to better retention and recall of letters and words, essential components of #reading and #spelling. ⭐ - Multiple studies have show that students engaging in handwriting instruction perform better in reading and #writing tasks, as compared to students who engage in typing - likely because of the brain stimulation we mentioned before! As a mom of two littles - I am seeing this so much more now than when I was teaching upper elementary and junior high. I can absolutely tell that my older is internalizing letter formation and associating sound recognition - she whispers each letter as she writes it! 😆
