On the sidelines of the activities of the 36th INWRDAM Forum, I met with His Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal, in the presence of Mr. Raed Abu Al-Saud, Jordanian Minister of Water, Mr. Mohamed Samir, Egyptian Ambassador to Amman, and Dr. Marwan Al-Raggad, President of the Islamic Network for the Development of Water Resources. Takeouts: -Strengthening relations in the field of #water to implement projects under the umbrella of the concept of the interconnection between #water, #food, #energy and #ecosystems. - Review of the new Delta station project, and the possibility of exchanging experiences between Egypt and Jordan in the field of #watertreatment and #reuse. #INWRDAM

Within the activities of the 36th INWRDAM Forum, I joined a round table session entitled “Enabling Egypt to establish a unit for the nexus between water, food, energy and ecosystems (WEFE Nexus).” Takeouts: - Egypt's #vision of establishing a unit for the nexus of #water, #food, #energy and #environmental systems in the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. - The importance of integration between Arab countries with #successful experiences in desalination, such as Saudi Arabia and Morocco. #INWRDAM

Had the honor to participate in the activities of the 36th General Assembly of INWRDAM, which is held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and with the participation of Dr. Aref Gharib, Head of the Nile Water Sector, and Eng. Mustafa Snusi. Director of the Minister’s Office for Nile Water Affairs, and Eng. Hala Mostafa in the Central Administration for External Cooperation in the Nile Water Sector. Takeouts: - Shifting to apply the #WEFE Nexus concept to reduce the gap between #water resources and uses. - The importance of #desalination projects using advanced, low-cost #technologies, and maximizing the use of salt return resulting from desalination. #INWRDAM

I was welcomed by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, along with Dr. Usama Al-Azhari, Minister of Endowments, at the papal headquarters in Cairo, where coordination of efforts regarding awareness of the importance of rationalizing water consumption was discussed during the meeting, and the role of the Coptic Church and the Ministry of Endowments in this context as well. Highlights: “It is necessary for all relevant institutions to cooperate in raising awareness of the importance of #water and preparing to launch a major #awareness national campaign during the coming period.” Pope Tawadros II: “The Church is fully prepared to participate in #supporting all activities aimed at increasing citizens’ awareness of #waterconservation.” Dr. Usama Al-Azhari: “The Ministry of Endowments carries out many advocacy and awareness programs on the importance of the blessing of water and its preservation, and we are ready to intensify them in #cooperation with the Coptic Church and #MWRI.”

Within the framework of Egypt’s keenness on supporting investments, attraction of more investments, and resolving investors’ complaints, a settlement agreement was signed along with Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Dr. Kamel Abdallah, Managing Director of the Canal Sugar Company, and in the presence of Counselor Adnan Al Fanjari, Minister of Justice, between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the General Authority for Reconstruction and Agricultural Development Projects, and the Canal Company for sugar for the benefit of the Canal Sugar Project. This comes in the context of ongoing efforts to overcome all difficulties facing #investors and facilitate procedures that guarantee a #safe and #stable investment environment and based on the keenness to preserve #development projects, which is reflected in #supporting the Egyptian economy, providing job opportunities, and increasing the local products. The Technical Secretariat of the Ministerial Committee for Settlement of Investment Contract Disputes held several meetings during which it reached a balanced settlement that preserved the rights of both parties and worked to overcome any obstacles facing the investor. It is worth noting that the Canal Sugar Project is an integrated agricultural-industrial project that aims to achieve self-sufficiency for the Egyptian state in #sugar through beet cultivation and establishing a factory to produce high-quality sugar.

Ms. Herro Mustafa Garg, Ambassador of the United States of America in Cairo, was welcomed to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United States of America in the field of water resources. Ms. Herro: “The privacy of the relations between the two countries and the American side’s keenness to exchange #experiences with the Egyptian side.” Takeouts: -The importance of the American side in providing technical #support to countries, especially African countries, in the field of dealing with #climatechange. - Implementing the decision issued by UNESCO to support the #AWARe initiative, and coordinating with the #CRIDA initiative in the field of capacity building and implementing climate change adaptation programs. - Capacity building through the International Visitor Leadership Program, Expert Exchange Program, US university scholarships, and technical English courses. - Discussing a number of files related to the #Nile River Basin and exchanging views regarding #water issues.

During my field visit to the Mansouriya Canal in Giza, I reviewed the irrigation process, observed modern irrigation systems on farms, and met with water user associations. The success of this year’s maximum needs season is attributed to the extensive efforts made by the Ministry’s sectors. #FieldVisit
