To help companies to embed #environmental considerations into their mineral supply chain due diligence procedures, the #OECD has today launched a Handbook on #Environmental #DueDiligence in #Mineral #SupplyChains. Enterprises play a key role in advancing #sustainable #economies and can contribute to delivering a progressive response to global, regional and local environmental challenges, including the urgent threat of #ClimateChange. This Handbook demonstrates how OECD instruments on due diligence can be applied to address environmental risks and impacts in mineral supply chains by contextualising existing recommendations and directing users towards useful resources. The #OECD is pleased to launch the brief 'Responsible is reliable: How responsible sourcing can address disruption factors and geopolitical risks in the supply of transition minerals' today at the #IEA #CriticalMinerals and #CleanEnergy Summit. While often pursued as two distinct goals, the brief looks at how a reliable supply of transition minerals depends on responsible sourcing of these resources. "Companies should source minerals in a way that respects #HumanRights and protects the #Environment. The OECD instruments on responsible business conduct (RBC) – particularly our Minerals Guidance – help governments and companies support the development of responsible, transparent and sustainable supply chains for critical minerals," Carmine Di Noia, Director at OECD, said at the summit.         To meet the demand in minerals for low-carbon and digital technologies, investment will need to flow into mineral-rich jurisdictions with risks of corruption, conflict, and human rights abuses. Companies should mitigate—not overlook—these risks, and governments can help them do so through an enabling policy environment. 📌 One week from now, on 14-15 February 2023, the @OECD-OCDE will be hosting its first-ever Ministerial meeting on Responsible Business Conduct. The meeting, co-Chaired by France and US, reflects the commitment and sense of urgency at the highest level of government, that global business conduct needs to be aligned with shared development objectives. On the final day of the Ministerial meeting, you are invited join the OECD Global Forum on Responsible Business Conduct, where we will share and reflect on the outcomes of discussions by the Ministers.   Register for the #GFRBC: https://lnkd.in/egxsbM48   As we look to 2030, it is far from evident that we are on track to deliver the twin milestones of achieving the #SDGs and halving #GHG emissions. The Ministerial meeting goes far beyond the OECD membership; more than 80 governments have been invited to participate.
