Ports. Certainly not the most glamorous, but brilliant locations to get the real understanding of a place. Ports hold so many stories and it’s always the first place I will visit in a new town - a habit I undoubtedly picked up from John Goodlad..(thanks for that Dad!) This is the port of Fredrikshaven in North Denmark.🇩🇰 And the vessel in the picture is ExxonMobil Zafiro Producer, sent to the port for scrapping from Equatorial Guinea. But what actually makes a good port? It’s certainly not by chance, it’s a strategic choice. For Frederikshavn it’s the following: Optimal quayside depth Minimal tidal variations Ice-free and sheltered water Access to North Sea oil sectors Optimal sailing conditions year-round Established infrastructure Efficient logistics Sea, road, rail and air access 1000 meter new quay Nothing is by chance. Everything is a choice. Even ports. #denmark #ports
Nice, but ld suggest there are a few other key considerations in the selection of a decommissioning contract, besides the port’s offering. Key for me is the capacity, safe track record & abilities of the decommissioning contractor, working with & in the port, & doing the work.
Amused to read yet again we have so many things in common Hannah 😀
Love this post. Ports are wonderful, absolutely fascinating. At all times, they were the gates to the world! Thanks Hannah Mary Goodlad (and this port is truly an old friend, which i again encounter in two days :))))
