I am very happy that yesterday evening one of my wishes came true: Telekom HU hosted the winners of the International Telekom Beethoven Competition in Budapest. We had a wonderful music event - the Melody of Connection - in the House of Magyar Zene Háza where we enjoyed the fantastic performance of the winner of this year Caleb Borick and the winner of 2021 Hans Suh. The two talented young pianists played Beethoven, Brahms and Liszt, and as a wonderful surprise, they performed Brahms ‘s Hungarian Dance No. 5 in the original four-hands format.
I am passionate about classical music since my childhood, I learned to play piano in the past. This musical education gave me an exceptional value for my later adult life. This passion has accompanied me throughout my business life at Deutsche Telekom and Magyar Telekom. During the last 10 years I have been following the International Telekom Beethoven Piano Competition in Bonn with great enthusiasm. I have followed the development and success of great talents and have watched with pride as the competition has become more and more recognized.
The Melody of Connections event established a link between Bonn, Beethoven's birthplace, Beethoven's music and Budapest, which turned 150 years old this year. We therefore prepared a unique surprise for the audience and linked the anniversary of the city with the music: the song Melody of Budapest, created using artificial intelligence and human creativity from mobile traffic data in Budapest's districts, was performed by the string quartet Sonus Cordis.
This Melody of Connections event once again made it clear that music can offer one language, understandable to all and can help to connect people, cultures, ages and even worlds.
This is truly reflected in our new slogan: “Connecting Your World”. Telekom wishes to connect people to everything that is important in their personal and social lives. I believe, music can do this as well.
As Beethoven said: "Music connects souls. What cannot be expressed in words is expressed through music, and where words are missing, music starts the conversation."
I would like to thank Deutsche Telekom, the Artistic Director and President of the Jury of the International Telekom Beethoven Competition, Pavel Gililov, and the sponsor of the competition within Deutsche Telekom, Head of Investor Relations Hannes Wittig, who helped us for months to make this evening possible.
I also would like to thank Adam Bosze for the great moderation, and Milan Janosov, Ph.D., Máté Balogh and the Sonus Cordis Quartet for the presentation of Melody of Budapest project.
