Yesterday, I spoke with a friend (ping Rūta Pukenė) about how, after many years in communications, the work can occasionally become repetitive, presenting familiar challenges and solutions. Fortunately, my current role offers a variety of experiences that keep me engaged: - A strong focus on sustainability, rooted in our company’s global commitment. This shapes our projects within the #MSC (mid-sized countries) cluster and influences my daily approach to work. We are exploring ways to make sustainability more focused, how to effectively role model it, and how the activities we implement across MSC can create long-term value (thanks Najoua Ayoub for the great collaboration on this one). - As a culture ambassador, I focus on integrating our core behaviors into everything we do, ensuring they're not just abstract concepts but principles that truly guide our team's actions and decisions every day. Ana Abajo Guijarro always pushes us to go beyond merely checking the box; she encourages us to get to the core problems and address them. - With eight countries in our MSC cluster, each presenting its own set of challenges, working methods, and distinct media environments, a major focus this year is on enhancing media relations. This makes communication a critical tool for deepening our engagement with external stakeholders (learning a lot here from GA pro Jonas Scherhaufer). - Internal communications play a vital role in my work, too. It goes beyond standard TC calls or routine updates—it's about empowering the team with the right tools and skills to collaborate effectively, stay connected, and understand the value we bring to each other as a team. Something Nicola Torosantucci always reminds us of is to take a step back and see the bigger picture, ensuring that we are still following the right direction. Talking with this friend, I was reminded of how diverse and rewarding a career in communications can be... when you're in the right place. And yes, perhaps this post was mainly inspired by my desire to share this lovely photo. #DaiichiSankyo

Recently, I had an interesting experience while discussing marketing strategies with a potential partner. I was speaking with a manager. Shortly after introducing myself and the manager yelled "not interested" followed by being hung up on. While I completely understand that not every collaboration is a perfect fit, I believe in fostering open and respectful communication. It's essential for us, as professionals, to recognize the value of courteous dialogue, even when the answer might be a polite "no." In the fast-paced world of marketing, where innovation and creativity thrive, our conversations should mirror the dynamism of our industry. I encourage everyone to embrace a culture of respectful communication. It's perfectly acceptable to decline an opportunity, but let's ensure we do so with professionalism and courtesy. Hanging up on someone not only undermines the collaborative spirit but also tarnishes our collective reputation as industry leaders. Let's pledge to elevate our conversations, championing a culture of openness, transparency, and respect. After all, in marketing, relationships matter just as much as strategies. 🌐💬 #Marketing #Professionalism #Communication #BusinessEtiquette #RespectfulDialogues

I love this 👇🏿 from Diffusion PR's Priscillia Chun: "What’s also clear to me is that the focus should always be on appreciating diverse perspectives, without trying to neutralise anyone’s identities or to force them into a mold — nothing good ever comes out of doing that anyway. When we actively recognise that people are not one-dimensional, and that our differences bring something valuable to the leadership table, perhaps then we’ll finally have more room for colours at the top." 👏🏿 👏🏿 👏🏿 💕 ----------------------------------------- Priscillia is Technology Campaign Director at Diffusion PR and holds primary responsibility for shaping the strategic communications direction for a diverse range of clients. With a career spanning over eight years, she has had a hand in multiple sectors, ranging from managing fried chicken and luxury yacht brands to spearheading communication strategies for cutting-edge renewable technology companies. In my experiences with communications teams within multinational organisations across the US, Brazil, the UK, and Australia, I've observed a recurring trend: a lack of true diversity within what are often labeled as "global" communication teams. Consider this scenario: meticulously crafted "global" campaigns launched into foreign markets, seemingly unaware of local customs and peculiarities. It's like offering Vegemite to Texans or expecting Cariocas to embrace maple syrup – a mismatch from the start. As dissent arises from these outposts, protests are often met with raised eyebrows and whispers of "Why can't they appreciate our globally crafted masterpiece?" The dissenting voice eventually departs, replaced by a carbon copy, echoing the sentiments of the central "global" team. Suddenly, the campaigns are embraced, but at what cost? As the motherland celebrates the triumph of its "global" vision, the credibility of campaigns beyond its borders plummets. What was once mere indifference from communication teams now transforms into widespread employee apathy. The irony is palpable: while these "global" campaigns boast visually diverse elements, true diversity of thought remains scarce. In essence, the key takeaway is clear: Embrace genuine diversity (and more importantly, inclusion) within these central teams and observe a transformation in narrative. In the realm of "global" communications, the underlying truth is apparent – without genuine diversity, we're all just singing the same tune to an empty audience. #GlobalCommunication #DiversityInclusion #CorporateCulture #MultinationalTeams #CulturalAwareness

I express these thoughts not as a young student at the start of my journey, but from observing my surroundings, engaging with peers, and daily interactions with fellow students. It has become clear that there is a common need that we often struggle to address. An increasing number of young students complete their degree, obtain their master's degree, and yet find themselves unsure about the path they want to pursue and how to go about it. The PR & COMMUNICATION SUMMIT team recognized this necessity and skillfully bridged the gap between seasoned professionals and the upcoming generation. In this way Young PR seminar was an important step for the new generation to enter this creative world. 😇Attending this event as a guest was a privilege, offering a motivational uplift and emphasizing the significance of bridging industry experience with upcoming leaders. The commitment I made to myself is to pursue my passion, to keep envisioning my Dream Job, and now, here I am. With ambition, anything is achievable, and with expert awareness and support, success is guaranteed. 💡A Few Ideas from Today: 🗣️Communication, anywhere, in any way, in any field, with anyone. Nothing can be accomplished without effective communication. 🫶🏼Backing social initiatives, adjusting our brand to align with social needs, participating in commendable projects, and emphasizing the importance of being human, expressing emotions, and advocating for positivity. #youngpr #prsummit24 #publicrelations

“Success isn't about how much money you make, it's about the difference you make in people's lives.” - Michelle Obama
Yesterday we had a great training on “How to establish yourself as a thought leader” led by BPIAs dynamic Communications Director Ethel Mwedziwendira. A few key takeaways: 1) What 2-3 things do you want to be known for? 2) Build your brand and portfolio to speak to your expertise on those things starting with hosting workshops with organizations/associations, nominate yourself as panelist at conferences, pitch opeds. These are all things you can google “how to” 3) Start where you are. You don’t wake up one day and end up on forbes (most of us anyway) you build and have an online presence of your impact. Plan it years out and set certain milestones as a goal. 4) Post high quality content (photos and written) across all channels. 5) Have a personal website (google sites is free or $12/year). 6) What comes up when you google yourself? What do you want to come up? We control what’s put out there and featured. Target outlets with audiences of interest. 7) Watch YouTube videos on personal branding and how to be a thought leader. 8) Hire a professional coach / PR specialist. 9) Follow/Connect with thought leaders in your industry. Lately, I’ve been having more conversations around the term thought leadership and what it really means, especially in the world of public relations. I’ve realised that many people view it simply as being an expert or knowledgeable in your field, but it's much more than that. For me, thought leadership is about positioning yourself as the voice people trust and turn to for insights and foresight. It’s not just about knowing the industry—it’s about being visible, influential, and shaping the conversations that matter. When you position your brand as a thought leader, you’re not just participating in discussions—you’re leading them. That opens doors to media coverage, partnerships, and speaking opportunities, and gives you the power to influence public opinion and set trends.
