We often talk about “youth engagement” like it’s an afterthought, a box to check off. But the truth? Young people are already dreaming up the solutions, seeing the cracks in the system, noticing what the rest of us miss. And yet, we keep them on the sidelines, waiting for some “right time” to give them a voice. But if you really want a thriving, resilient society, here’s a radical idea: Don’t just invite youth to the table. Hand them the keys, let them drive, and see what happens. Because when young people are truly engaged – empowered to make things happen, not just to watch – they don’t just fit into society. They transform it, reimagining what’s possible. The societies we dream of aren’t in the distance. They’re in the ideas, the enthusiasm, and the courage of the youth we empower today. Gearing up for a new week and the start of an important week in the year- #nationalinclusionweek. Not too far into the school year, this years theme feels as relevant to school as it is in the workplace. Debriefing on the school day- it's always has it been a good or a bad one and inevitably this is down to the words and/ or actions of others- friends, teachers, parents. At Laing O'Rourke we've just launched our new #diversity and #inclusion plan and one huge chunk of it is about "Driving Cultural Accountability"- what this means is each and every one of us has a choice, daily on how we impact others through our actions and behaviours.
