Hello here, It's been a hot minute. I spent the evening today sharing my thoughts with 44 ambassadors of AIIDEV Africa about the nexus between work culture & performance and the importance of creating a sound and empowering workplace culture. Two things stood out from the thoughts I shared. 1. Culture is co-created. We create the culture we work in and we all have the shared responsibility to improve the culture we have "permitted". 2. Every workplace is defined by an ambience, this ambience is created from multiple elements of "the things we permit", threads of "how we do things here", that later forms into a fabric called "Culture". This ambience provides the thriving place for staff' emotions, empowering emotions when the ambience is right and disempowering emotions where the ambience is dysfunctional. Let's wrap this up. You see, the quality of task that a person delivers, is always a function of the emotions that was used to execute it. The speed of execution, the depth of thoughts invested in the task et al, are all impacted by the underlying emotions of the executor. Like Coach Enahoro Okhae (Mr. Leverage) would say, Emotions drive performance ! How is the culture in your workplace impacting the outcomes of your people? Could this impact be measured? Let's know your thoughts. Enjoy your weekend. 😁

Most companies don’t realize how central emotions are to building the right culture. They often focus on cognitive culture: the shared intellectual values, norms, and assumptions that shape how employees think and behave. While cognitive culture is undeniably important, research by Sigal Barsade shows it's only part of the story. The other critical part is emotional culture, which governs the feelings people have and express at work. How often do we consider the emotional culture in our workplace? Are we fostering an environment where people feel connected, valued, and inspired? #emotionalculturedeck #rehumanisingtheworkplace

I experienced the blend of technology, empathy, and insightful dialogue this week in London. First, I was privileged to demo unlocking empathy through virtual reality. It was an eye-opening experience to explore and demonstrate VR's capability to create a profound understanding of empathy and the effects of unchecked unconscious bias in workplace settings. The success of this session reinforced my belief in innovative approaches to DEI training. The second highlight of my visit was meeting Minda Harts in person. An impactful workplace consultant from the US, Minda's work has been a beacon of inspiration for many, including myself. Our paths crossed in Europe, and seizing the opportunity, we engaged in a much-needed conversation about humanizing the workplace. Minda's latest book, Right Within ( title inspired by Doo Wop song by Lauryn Hill, "𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗻, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗶𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻?", prompts us to reflect on internal well-being and its impact on our professional lives. One striking insight from Minda's talk was the analogy of the workplace as an abusive relationship. This perspective sheds light on the traumatic impact - both mental and physical - that toxic work environments can have on employees. It's a crucial conversation that is often overlooked but necessary for fostering truly inclusive and healthy workplaces. Thanks, Nikki Adebiyi, for hosting the Right Within meetup; I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with you and Minda IRL. Minda's work and our recent dialogue serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges and conversations we must have to improve workplace culture and health. Look up Minda's books and think about the impact of your work environment on your overall well-being. It's high time we address the complexities of workplace relationships and strive for environments where everyone can thrive. #Empathy #VirtualReality #Inclusion #Management #Stress

Team, Humanity naturally craves connection. In a world supersaturated with technology that links us 24/7, the need we feel isn't just about vague, impersonal connections but, earnestly craving for empathy, compassion, and understanding. Relating this to our world of work magnifies the weight of the conversation.🌐🔗 We spend about a third of our lives at work. For better or for worse, those hours contribute significantly to our overall well-being and life satisfaction. But first, what is empathy? 💭 Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others—an emotional bridge that promotes authentic connections. In workers' terminology, it is the Silent Partner of Productivity. 👥💼 Why should we promote empathy in the workplace? 🏢 Here are a few reasons to consider: ✔️ Building Trust: Empathy fosters openness, mutual respect and understanding. Trust builds up and with trust, comes great collaboration. Teamwork makes the dream work, after all! 🙌🏻 ✔️ Nurturing Connection: Employees feel valued, heard, and understood. This emotional connection doesn't exist in vacuums or cubicles; it translates directly into employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention. 🎯 ✔️ Proliferating Innovation: Room for diverse perspectives means a variety of ideas. Empathy promotes inclusiveness and paves the way for innovation- an underappreciated game changer in today's work dynamic. ✔️ Mitigating Conflicts: Understanding employees’ thoughts and feelings can help prevent or resolve conflicts in the workplace. Let's get one thing straight; promoting empathy doesn't mean turning the office into a therapy session, but it does mean encouraging a culture where employees feel heard, understood, and valued. 🌟🏢 Action points? 🎯 💡 Promote active listening 💡 Encourage open and diverse dialogues 💡 Provide and receive feedback with grace We've got the what, why, and how, now it's time for action. Start small, start today, start with ourselves. We are those change-makers, those trendsetters. Let's make Empathy the language of our workplace culture. It starts with a conversation, and today, we've begun ours! 📈✨ I challenge each one of you to incorporate empathy in your daily work routine. Let’s get this Empathy Evolution going! #EmpathyAtWork #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeEngagement #Leadership #Productivity #Innovation 🚀

Sparking Innovation: The Power of Spontaneous Thinking at Workplace In today's fast-paced world, fostering a dynamic and creative work environment is key to success. One aspect that often gets overlooked is the importance of spontaneous thinking. Encouraging off-the-cuff ideas and quick problem-solving can lead to surprising breakthroughs. Spontaneous thinking isn't about recklessness; it's about embracing unexpected moments of inspiration. These "aha" moments can be invaluable for driving innovation and improvement. To cultivate this type of environment, we're implementing a few initiatives. We're encouraging more open-ended brainstorming sessions and creating designated "think tanks" – casual spaces where teams can gather, chat, and let their ideas flow freely. Fostering spontaneous thinking doesn't negate the need for structure and planning. We still prioritize clear goals and deadlines. However, by allowing room for improvisation, we empower our teams to take ownership and find creative solutions. The benefits of spontaneous thinking extend beyond just innovation. It can also lead to improved problem-solving and decision-making. When faced with an unexpected challenge, employees who are comfortable thinking on their feet are better equipped to react quickly and effectively. Overall, we believe that encouraging spontaneous thinking is a win-win for both employees and the company. It allows for a more dynamic and engaging work environment, while also fostering creativity and adaptability. #KV #HRArchitect #HRAlchemist #SpontaneousThinkingAtWork #HRInnovation #CreativeWorkEnvironment #BrainstormingTips #ProblemSolvingSkills #EmployeeEmpowerment #ThinkTankSpaces #DynamicWorkplace #FutureOfWork #AOne
