Connecting Singaporean youths to their cultural roots and heritage (a business transformation and strategic branding project for a Chinese Opera Company) “薪火相传 A single spark can start a fire🔥” - Cai Bi Xia, Founder, Traditional Arts Company (TAC) At Ideactio, we joined forces with TAC to bridge the gap between Singaporean youth and their cultural roots through Chinese Opera. To start off, we have asked ourselves: - How can Chinese Opera create the crucial bridge between Singaporean youth and culture? - What role TAC can play in this? Challenge Identified: - Young Singaporeans are disconnected with their cultural roots. - Hyper urbanised environment of Singapore doesn't allow time or space for youth to discover and connect with their cultural roots, thus leading to the potential loss of traditions in hyper urban Singapore and a decline in interest in appreciation for rich historical heritage. - Fading charm of Chinese Opera in Singapore - A gap between youth and Chinese Opera such as inaccessibility to information, language barrier, out-of-day style and relatable content. What Ideactio did: Sense-making: A thorough analysis to understand needs and gaps of youth (the potential audience), informing a strategic change in TAC’s engagement approach. Refreshed identity: Crafting a refreshed identity for TAC and its offering that communicates the essence of Chinese Opera effectively. New product / services: New product and services that connect well with the target audience Audience engagement strategy: Developed a detailed engagement strategy and a comprehensive brand marketing handbook tailored for TAC's community. At Ideactio we love to work with truly ‘purpose-driven’ organisations like TAC, and passionate founders like Ms. Cai Bi Xia. While living it hyper-urban cities it is even more important not to loose connection with our cultural roots, heritage and history. Where we come from (our history and culture), anchors our journey to where we are going! #ChineseOpera #CulturalHeritage #ArtsEducation #CommunityEngagement #PreservationEfforts #TraditionalArtsCentre PS: Ideactio’s work with Traditional Arts Company (TAC) over a period of three months was made possible through Sector Transformation Grant (STF) by National Arts Council (NAC) #NAC to set TAC on its path to a renewed journey.

Upon learning of the opportunity for my family's business to collaborate with the local government in 泉州 to rekindle and foster bonds through our business offerings, I realised that it must transcend mere economic benefits. When I proposed the idea of showcasing our offerings in China to my in-laws (Dance Ensemble Singapore, 新加坡聚舞坊), I anticipated that it would serve as a gateway to numerous future opportunities for us to not only strengthen bilateral relations, but also to establish long-term partnerships. What I hadn't anticipated was the rapid expansion of this venture, extending beyond 泉州 to garner interest from across China in our cultural and artistic scene. The potential is truly remarkable. Given the constraints of limited resources and team capacity, it took slightly over a year for us to negotiate terms and conditions and ultimately execute the initial phase of our venture. This marks the beginning of our journey towards fostering a sustainable future of growth, extending beyond our individual capabilities. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported us on this journey thus far. Hopefully, in the near future, we will be able to unveil more about what lies ahead. I eagerly await the opportunity to witness how our Little-Red-Dot can serve as a conduit to fortify our ASEAN identity, and to collaborate and grow with like-minded individuals who share our vision of advancing capabilities beyond mere economic prosperity. #ComeJoinUs #WhenWeAreTogether 晋江市融媒体中心, 2024-03
