This coming Thursday is the United States of America's 248th birthday. We used to call this holiday "Independence Day," and I believe that's still its official name. However, it's strange how, nowadays, people usually just call it by its date; "July 4th," or "The 4th of July." Why did we change the language in common speech? Maybe it's because of that old song, Yankee Doodle Dandy. Most of us know that we celebrate our independence from the tyrannical rule of the colonies by the monarchy in England. My question today is, Are we truly 'Independent?' Sure, we're no longer ruled by a foreign nation's monarchy in the political sense. We govern ourselves, don't we? The individual states are always vying for more of their own power in the language of the law, versus that of the federal government. That sounds like independence to me. 50 different sets of independence, all in somewhat of a conflict. Maybe we should depend more on one another. I mean that in the sociological & political senses, but also in the individual sense. Too much dependence is probably bad, but our own individualism seems to have created more division now than ever. I believe we each need others. Our sense of pride and self-importance may be more toxic than we realize. We don't all have to do everything on our own, and our own opinions and perspectives should not be all that matters to us. Let's be more considerate of each other! I need you, and you need me. We're in this together! What do you think about this subject? Please leave your comments below. Thanks! And, let's think more about others than our own hot dogs or firecrackers this Thursday.

Wishing all Americans a blessed Independence Day. If it has been a while since you read the Declaration of Independence, let me encourage you that there is no better day than today to fix that. It would only take you 3-5 minutes, but it would be the best 3-5 minutes of your day. The Declaration lays out the philosophical basis and justification for the Constitution (a document many of us have taken an oath, perhaps many times, to defend, possibly at the cost of our lives.) Those two documents form a coherent whole. The Declaration itself lays out the "Who/What/Why", and the Constitution build on that with "How". I hope you noted that those are 4 of the 6 elements of a good report - "Whiskey Five Hotel" (W5H - who, what, where, when, why, and how.) Have a blessed (and safe) day!

ON THE DSA The “Divided States of America” The enemies of the United States—which share an almost perfect identity with totalitarian states, movements, and factions that are seemingly, and SEAMLESSLY united against the rule of law [and, most often, empirical reality] worldwide—seek to inflame our divisions and entirely divide us. So effectuate the opposite. Check again when you see or hear something that enrages you. ASSUME ALL DATA ARE FALSE UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE. Cf. https://lnkd.in/e9STWfQW “Fellow-citizens, we cannot escape history. We of this Congress and this administration, will be remembered in spite of ourselves. No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us. The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation. We say we are for the Union. The world will not forget that we say this. We know how to save the Union. The world knows we do know how to save it. We - even we here - hold the power, and bear the responsibility. In giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free - honorable alike in what we give, and what we preserve. We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth. Other means may succeed; this could not fail. The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just - a way which, if followed, the world will forever applaud, and G-d must forever bless.” - Abraham Lincoln, December 1, 1862.

The word 'Independence', carries a weight heavier than felt, means deeper than heard, and really is the one of the most fundamental, and basic right that governs the behavior of an individual. The exhilarating sense of feeling, when true freedom is achieved, is impeccably liberating and empowering. Maybe it is the first salary, or first profit, buying your own vehicle, moving in to your own house, regardless of what it is, the sense of freedom in itself, releases dopamine. But in order to achieve freedom, virtues such as determination, effort, patience, bravery, and many more factors are needed. Independence, or freedom, isn't something that can be confined to wishing once in a year, it is much bigger than that. Everything and anything that leads to freedom, or help in being independent should be celebrated and cherished by everyone, however small it is. Happy Independence Day to all those 'Dreamers and Doers'.
On this 78th Independence Day, let us take time to remind ourselves, and reflect upon the unwavering and relentless effort, and sacrifices that had to be paid, as the price to break-free from the shackles of oppression. Remember what Robert Frost said, 'Freedom lies in being bold'. Happy Independence Day! #August15 #78thIndependenceDay #ProudIndians
