There is a prevailing notion in the music world, from classical to jazz and everything in-between, that if you think about music in the context of earning you're "selling out". Don't get me wrong, I truly believe that we all have something artistic to contribute to the world, and that we should find ways to put our creative ideas out there for people to hear. However, you and I both know that not all creative ideas are going to be financially successful. The reality of earning more as a performer is that you need to think of your music as a business, and part of that is figuring out how to expand your offerings so you have more opportunities to perform. So what would expanding your offerings look like? It's different for everyone. It depends on your abilities, the styles of music you like to perform, the number of performances you're looking to have, and how much you'd like to earn from each performance. You can perform in concerts, recitals, cabarets, weddings, bar mitzvahs, funerals, church services, pubs, country clubs, piano bars, fundraisers, corporate events, holiday parties, restaurants, casinos, beach resorts, cruise ships, music festivals, and the list goes on. If you're not sure about how to get these opportunities, you're not alone. Not only does academia not teach us how to actually create a performance career, it also neglects to show us the myriad of ways one can make a living from music. Are you ready to "sell out" and start earning more from performing? Then I have great news for you. The next round of the Badass Booking Boot Camp is now open! My signature course is all about empowering you to take control of your own music career. This is the 5th time I'm running the program, which has already helped dozens of musicians learn how to get booked and be their own agents, and this 6-week live online course starts later this month. Interested in more info? You know where to find me. Here's to you "selling out" in 2024! #themarketablemusician #musicians #performer #musicbiz #musicbusiness #booking #bootcamp

With concerts having been canceled or put on pause through the Covid-19 pandemic, they are now back in full swing and performers are making a splash with global tours. The following chart looks at how popular live music events are among adults in different countries. Data from Statista’s Consumer Insights shows that Spaniards were particularly likely to buy concert tickets, with one in four respondents having bought one in the past 12 months. This was far less commonplace in South Korea, where only 10 percent of respondents said they had booked a ticket to a music event, concert or festival. https://lnkd.in/eg9hXiuu

Hosting your concert, showcase, or event around your music brand is a great way to get your community engaged offline. You get to connect with them and shake hands with people who’d love to support you. For example, let’s say a local emerging artist in your town starts a monthly event series. They get sponsors to cover the upfront costs and get 70 of their biggest supporters to come and pay $20 to see them perform. That would amount to $1,400 per event and $16,800 annually. Another idea is hosting a small concert and inviting other local musicians to play alongside yourself. This may take a lot of time and resources but it’s definitely worth it if you execute right. Not only do you get to play in front of your own fans but you get a chance to cross-brand with your counterparts and their communities. Overall there many different types of events you can produce both big and small. If you plan to tour (if you’re not already) this a good way to get your feet wet and get active in your local community. #musician #musicmarketing #musicindustry #musiclicensing

Tips for those of you ready to start getting booked.
Navigating small venues as a local artist One significant part of the artist’s growth process is making the transition from open mic nights or public events to booking small venues for shows. Colorado offers a mixed bag of venues for small-to-medium-sized artists, and some of them can be tough to navigate from a financial perspective. We sat down with a number of artists in the community as well as a venue to get the scoop on booking your next private gig. Electric Whiskey Experiment, Swallow Hill Music, Roots Music Project, 110 Reserve, Crystola Roadhouse, Salad or Bust Deli, Motel SOCO, The Well Hotel & Taproom, Dueces Wild Brewery #music #musicianlife #playinggigs #Colorado https://lnkd.in/gqWtDAwt

Pearl Jam, Green Day, Hozier & Kings of Leon should be able to sell out a music festival right? Right? Well not exactly. Marlay Park Festival in Dublin struggled to sell out their festival. And many theories are floating around as to why. Some claim that the lineup is not current and others balk at the excessive festival ticket prices ($117.25) Some say artist fees are so high that the tickets have to justify the fees and others are saying the location is upsetting locals which is why there's a curfew at 11 pm. So, which is it? The truth is everyone can assume, but no one knows because fan feedback is the last on the list for most promoters. And I do not blame the promoter. As one myself, I've always assumed that booking a great lineup is our service back to the fans. But how wrong have I been? We don't have transparent data that can guide promoters in creating the right content and this will continue. Trust me. More festivals will fall.
