I recently had a customer approach me with a clear directive: he needed a website and wanted to rank number one for HVAC. Yet, as an experienced professional, I understood that what he needed and what he wanted were often vastly different. Ultimately, businesses crave paying customers, not just a flashy website. So, I delved deeper into his business goals. I discovered that the bulk of his revenue stemmed from installing walk-in coolers and freezers, despite never actually selling them himself. Instead, his business relied on manufacturer reps to handle sales. This sparked an idea. I took a tailored approach, creating multiple smaller sites for each service he offered, recognizing the unique needs of each. Suddenly, he found himself fielding inquiries from direct buyers of industrial coolers and freezers. By capitalizing on this newfound opportunity, he not only secured installation contracts but also began generating additional revenue through direct sales. This unconventional strategy set him apart from his competitors. Plus, by embracing a flexible online platform, he gained the ability to experiment with new ideas, clone existing sites, and conduct split tests without the hefty price tag of a traditional marketing firm. Imagine a scenario where government rebates incentivize homeowners to install more efficient systems.
