Introducing the first speaker for our upcoming Hardware Meetup NZ: Christchurch event - Stefan Powell from Dawn Aerospace 🚀 Stefan is the CEO, CTO and Co-Founder of Dawn Aerospace. His passion for sustainable technologies began with wind energy, which led him to study engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. While at Delft, Stefan joined a rocket-building club, which ultimately inspired the creation of Dawn Aerospace, alongside a group of like-minded friends. Now leading the company, he is focused on developing a rapidly reusable rocket-powered aircraft and green in-space propulsion to drive the future of sustainable space technologies 🍀 Come along to hear from Stefan by getting your ticket here! https://lnkd.in/gn44hMvB Feel free to also reshare this post to get the word out to your networks in Christchurch! A livestream link will be available for those who can't make it in person 📺

Excited to share that our paper, “Optimizing Two-Echelon Logistics Network for Urban Logistics by LRP Heuristics with integrated Microscopic Transport Simulation”, is finally published! Originated from DLR project “UrMo Digital” this work was first presented at the World Conference on Transport Research (#WCTR2023) in #Montreal. In this study we optimized Berlin’s last-mile cargo bike and micro-depot network, additionally taking into account the first leg between parcel centers and micro depots. Our approach was validated and evaluated in terms of economic, environmental, and transport impacts. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eAPSUxZy Special thanks to my collaborators and co-authors, especially Ibraheem Oluwatosin Adeniran for the valuable contributions, support and insights!

Stoke Space (YC W21) just announced $260 million in Series C funding for their innovative, ultra-low-cost space transportation solutions, including the world's first 100% reusable medium-lift rocket. The funding will help Stoke accelerate the development of reusable technologies, including its full-flow staged combustion engine and actively cooled metallic reentry heat shield. These innovations aim to make space travel more cost-effective and reliable, moving closer to the goal of routine space transportation. The investment will also support the completion of construction at Launch Complex 14 in Florida, where Stoke’s Nova rocket will be launched, as well as the further development of the Nova rocket and Stoke’s test and manufacturing facilities. Congrats to Andy Lapsa, Tom Feldman, and the entire Stoke team on the new milestone! https://lnkd.in/gVvdzF8M

During the past six months, I've been dedicating to a research in transport systems field titled "Proposition and analysis of eVTOL flight networks in the state of Santa Catarina" a problem that my advisor Humberto Bettini and I developed seeking to understand the potential of eVTOLs in Brazil. The project intends to explore flight networks for eVTOLs using graph theory methods (hub-and-spoke) and made me stare and study themes like vertiports proposition, advanced air traffic management and others constraints/challenges faced by the eVTOL industry. The image refers to a preliminary network which will be examined through sensitivity analysis in the next months of research. The goal is to determine which routes are viable and which network lead to the optimization of specified objective functions such as lower cost, shorter time, etc. It has been a big challenge - yet a true pleasure - to develop this research applying such an innovative technology in the place where I was born and raised. I hope to share more results with you soon!

Excited to share my latest research on the Aeroacoustic Testing of UAM Rotors! This study dives into the challenges of noise reduction in urban air mobility (UAM), comparing rotor performance and acoustics in both controlled and uncontrolled environments. Insights from this work contribute to the design of quieter, more efficient air taxis. Thanks to Virginia Tech's advanced facilities and guidance from mentors, I’ve gained valuable experience in experimental techniques and data analysis. Check out the report to learn more about the future of urban air transportation!
