I know it's rough out there, so here's a light question for lunchtime: how do you choose your demo reel music?? Criteria, mood, etc. I want to hear it all. I'll start: 1) I like to keep it pretty current to the year, or at least have it feel modern enough 2) It has to have a short lull at the start for the slate 3) Then an energy spike to keep things upbeat 4) It needs a few pace escalations that hopefully happen on some standout percussion beats to cut on. 5) And of course, a natural opening at the end to ramp it down around 1:30 or so. Beck's "Dreams" is a good example for me, I used it in my 2021 reel. Your turn! Leave your comment below. I can't wait to see your thought process.

Rockin’ Patent® – Laurens Hammond’s “Electrical Musical Instrument” Rockin’ Patent®: US Patent No. 1,956,350 Filed: 19 January 1934 In the name of: Laurens Hammond Title: Electrical Musical Instrument What’s claimed: “In an electrical musical instrument in which alternating current is used to produce musical tones, a manual including a number of different keys, a set of switches operated by each key, a plurality of sources of alternating current, and electrical connections from each of said sources to said switches, such that switches of different sets are connected to a single one of said sources.” Why this patent rocks: This patent appears to relate to the Hammond Organ. The patent itself is a fascinating read to understand the science and theory behind the organ. It’s also interesting seeing the amount of detail in the drawings (e.g. Figs. 1 and 2 above). It’s all about numbers ✅ First, hit SAVE so you can revisit this. Here are the 5 simple steps to write music like Philip Glass: 1. Choose a chord progression 2. Choose a 4-note arpeggio to play that chord progression in (in quarter notes) 3. Play the same chord progression up an octave but using a 3-note arpeggio (in eighth notes) 4. At the end of the chord progression change the arpeggio higher 5. When you use a 5th chord, switch between a minor and major dominant I suggest that you play around with the different arpeggios. As long as the lower and higher arpeggios play different length patterns (2,3,4,5,6 note arpeggios), you will get very close to the “Glass” sound.

I won't be able to explain this nonsense to you so I won't even try! 😂 Basically a Cue Sheet means explaining which songs you used, from which timecode to which timecode, and how long the duration is so you can properly credit music libraries that you subscribe to. 🤓 This has nothing to do with Metadata. Output your Sequence with only the audio and it will be OBVIOUS 🤪 where songs occur during your program. #WhereDoTheyGetThesePeople? #FirstWorldProblems #VideoEditing

Curriculum guides will often say things like "standard" or "traditional" notation (often implying the staff) but never really specify which standard or tradition that notation should be from. For guitar players playing in popular music genres, tab, or chord charts are traditional. In Nashville and other similar contexts, Nashville Numbers is the standard. For drummers, a rhythmic shorthand, or no notation at all could be the expectation. For a producer working in a DAW, the standard is TUBS notation or MIDI grid notation. You might even use the depicted sound waves as a form of notation. All of these notations should be explored in educational settings as authentically as possible within their respective contexts. #musiced #authenticity #musiceducation #musedchat #musicteaching
