More and more voices are speaking out against the industry's exploitation. It's time to hold gambling industry accountable for the harm caused and make gambling truly recreational. To achieve this, we must overhaul the failing responsible gambling system and enforce stricter penalties for those who ignore their duty to protect vulnerable players. Let's end gambling advertising! We have written again to the Prime Minister and other Federal MPs today to support a FULL gambling ad ban. As the peak body for Victorian financial counsellors, our members report to us how their gambling harm clients almost always present with comorbidities and underlying issues including poor mental health, family violence, and drug and alcohol addiction. It is also well understood that gambling contributes to major risk factors, such as financial loss and relationship breakdown, which are associated with suicide. The human impact of gambling harm is immense – not just for the individual, but for their family, friends and networks. 𝟴𝟯% 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗻 According to a poll of 2,877 participants by The Sydney Morning Herald, 83% want the government to impose a complete ban on gambling advertising. This strong public sentiment is echoed by the 35,243 supporters who have signed our petition to #EndGamblingAds. It's time for action on this issue. All that’s stopping proportionate gambling reform in Australia, a nation that collectively loses a staggering $32B a year on the punt, is the political will and moral courage to stare down vested interests clamouring to protect their super-profits, profits earned off the back of addictive misery. All levers necessary are available - legislative, regulatory and technical. All the chatter around reviews, inquiries, parliamentary committees - even independent panels - don’t hide this simple fact. At the end of the day, our political leaders will need to break cover, step up and do whats desperately needed - starting federally with a full ban of sports betting ads, and across the states, the introduction of a mandatory, universal, account-linked, cashless gambling card for pokies - with robust harm minimisation measures built in. We’re waiting.

It’s about time we put a stop to harmful gambling advertisements and protect our children and young people. Australia has the highest gambling losses per capita of any country in the world, with estimates suggesting that Australians lose approximately $25 billion on legal forms of gambling each year. The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) reported a “strong link between exposure to betting advertising and riskier gambling behaviour.” According to Martin Thomas, CEO of Alliance for Gambling Reform, there is evidence that suggest that the gambling industry is “deliberately targeting kids and encouraging them to click and install gambling apps on their phones” and using “a predatory and systematic approach to try and get our kids to gamble.“ We need to act now and stop the glamourisation of gambling! #EndGamblingAds

Anton Kuchukhidze, the chairman of the Ukrainian Gambling Council talks about the challenges that still remain in the field of legal gambling: ♣️Despite the positive changes, there is an important problem in the field of advertising that has not yet been resolved: the unequal conditions for gambling and lottery advertising.
