If you don’t or can’t make a choice, then someone will do it for you. However, more often than not, the latter may end up with not exactly what you had in mind. I grew up in a remote area called FELDA Jengka. I consider myself lucky as I realized at an early age that education is the key to being successful in life. The only missing piece of the puzzle is, HOW? I wasn’t smart enough to be accepted to boarding school, where HOW is revealed. I was 15, juggling among preparing for SRP, working overtime in the plantation, and having fun with sport (volleyball, sepak takraw, badminton and hockey). One afternoon, I heard that my 16-year old next-door neighbor (who ended up being a dedicated teacher), was hit by FFB on his lower back, from the 30-foot tree. A couple months before that, the other 16 year-old neighbor was hit by the fully loaded tractor, slipping from a FFB platform, died hours after. The turning point for me was, I was hit by the thorny branch of the palm tree. I was on “MC” for 2 weeks, due to a painful swollen foot. I couldn’t walk. I couldn't afford to see the doctor either. It was a few months before SRP that I asked for being excused from all my regular tasks. Of course, the request was denied. The education is important but continuing with all these tasks/jobs is equally important. As a good boy, I didn’t dare to go against authority as the consequence would be unbearable. I used the remaining waking time (after 10 PM) to focus on my studies with the help of a kerosene lamp. With the help of everyone and God, I made it. However, the choice of doing Electrical Engineering wasn’t mine. I wasn’t smart enough to make my own decision. I had no one to turn to for guidance either. I accepted the offer; else I’d have stuck with plantation forever. Well, fast forward, it turned out not a bad choice after all. It’s not so much on the choice itself, but rather what you do after choosing the path you want to go. #careerchoices I #motivationposts

Red coatings are used for pipeline basically for fire-water lines, even though there are other latent reasons, including but not limited to safety, standardization, visibility etc.

We need to decentralize and share jobs nationwide since they're over-concentrated on the coasts, plus cheaper land can make housing more affordable if planning and zoning are done properly. This biggest challenges will be wasteful urban sprawl, worsening 110F+ heatwaves and mega-droughts so 100% water recycling and even water pipelines from the east and north will be required. My "#Gaiapolis #Strategy" book provides a roadmap for building #green #bionic #hubs, #cities and #industries to #decarbonize and protect our #health and #ecosystems. https://lnkd.in/gCQyq4t5
Opportunity in the U.S. has a new address. Many people used to have to go to New York or San Francisco to find great jobs and make the top salaries in their field. That's changed fast thanks to remote work and politics, among other factors. Pay premiums are shrinking at the East and West coasts, and Sunbelt cities are adding good jobs at chart-topping rates. All eyes are on places like Arizona, where job postings in Phoenix have jumped by more than 60%. (Compared to a 25% drop in Bay Area postings.) “It feels like living in the future,” says recent college graduate Maximus Powers. He originally expected to move to San Francisco, but picked Phoenix as he develops his own AI software, after hearing a friend describe how full of energy the city felt. The Big Five metroplexes for growth are now: Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Phoenix, Austin and Atlanta. Great reporting by WSJ's Te-Ping Chen

This also speaks to the importance of good local leaders. Part of the reason Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Phoenix, Austin and Atlanta, are Top 5 metroplexes for growth, is that municipal, county, city, and community leaders help build places people want to live and work. Yes, these five cities, conurbations really, tend to be lower cost of living than East-West Coast cities, and that plays a role. But don't miss the stories of innovation and people-friendly LOCAL leaders.
