Canada was the first country in the world to officially celebrate this significant day when it was first received at the 33rd UNESCO General Conference. Today is about celebrating diversity of cultures in Canada, in Cornwall / SDG PR. What is Cultural Diversity? A common misconception is that cultural diversity refers to only race or ethnicity. Culture helps shape individual’s identities, which makes every person culturally diverse. Our community includes people from various walks of life, backgrounds, and corners of the globe. May is #AsianHeritageMonth in Canada! Asian Heritage Month offers us an opportunity to learn more about the history of Canadians of Asian heritage and to recognize the struggles and challenges faced by Canadians of Asian descent, including racism, discrimination, and xenophobia. It is also an opportunity to celebrate our valuable and diverse contributions to Canada’s economic, political and cultural development. Today I celebrate my #filipino heritage and its contributions to Canada: 💰Employment rate for Canadian Filipinos was also the highest in 2022 at 75.3 percent, compared to the national average of 65.4% 🇵🇭The Philippines is the third largest source country for immigration to Canada, which is especially important as our birth rate continues to decline below the replacement rate. 🫂Although most Filipino Canadians are relative newcomers to Canada, over 9 in 10 (92.0%) reported a somewhat strong or very strong sense of belonging to Canada in the spring of 2022, compared with 84.2% of Canadians overall. I am proud of my Filipino heritage and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to recently visit the Philippines with my family.
