Attending air cargo trade shows provides the chance to meet people in your industry face-to-face and make lasting connections. There are several key steps to making a successful connection at the show. First, be prepared with a business card or other information that you can give out while networking. Be sure to have an elevator speech ready that quickly explains who you are and what company you represent so that those you meet will remember you after the show. When meeting someone new, always introduce yourself by giving them your name and then asking for their name. Listening carefully to the conversation and being mindful of body language can also help create strong relationships during this time. As new technologies emerge, they can impact supply chains that include the transport of dangerous goods. To help ensure these processes are as safe as possible and that Australia aligns with global standards, the NTC's Debra Kirk represented Australia at the 63rd session of the Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. The sub-committee discussed regulating new technologies such as solid-state lithium batteries, ‘drop-in fuels’ for reducing the use of hydrocarbon gases and liquid organic hydrogen carriers. All of which contribute to the sub-committee’s goal of safer transport and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It was confirmed by the sub-committee that the aim of the UN recommendations for the transport of dangerous goods is to make transport feasible and safe by reducing risks to a minimum. This was further discussed in a proposal for future work on how we can enable new technologies and ways of working, focusing on safety rather than introducing barriers. It never ceases to amaze me how angling creates global connections. We are holding a European trade show in September and while we are welcoming exhibitors and visitors from traditional tackle markets like China, Japan and the States, I never expected to be hosting an exhibitor from... Egypt. But here we are. I think EFT Hooks might be the very first exhibitor from Egypt at any of the big international trade shows I have attended, but it is no novelty supplier.
