Q: How long have you been with Turner Industries?
A: I have been with Turner for 15 years.
Q: What Department/Division do you work in?
A: I work in the Safety Department for Turner's Maintenance and Turnaround Division.
Q: If you started out in a different position, describe your journey to your current position.
A: I started working for Turner Industries on November 4, 2008, at the Shell Deer Park site as a safety administrator and assisted with maintenance, capital projects, and the turnaround activity. Following the completion of my CSST course, I was given the opportunity to conduct field audits with safety personnel. From there, I worked my way into a safety technician role and finally to my current position as site safety manager at Kuraray Eval in Pasadena, Texas.
Q: What attracted you to Turner Industries?
A: I first heard about Turner Industries through a family member who worked at the Shell Deer Park site. She informed me about a position that was available and the opportunities for growth from that position.
Q: What advice would you give women interested in beginning a career in the heavy industry?
A: I have a quote in my office, and it's the first thing I see when I sit in my chair. "She believed she could, so she did." and I added, "She still is." Learn all you can because once you learn something, it gives you knowledge. Once you gain knowledge, no one can take it away from you. Knowledge is power. Be committed, consistent, and disciplined to your goals.
